Top Fashion Blogs to Follow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Fashion designer Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

These words cannot ring truer.  Fashion is not restricted to the runway.  To be fashionable, one must think beyond the catwalk and beyond the statuesque models.

With today’s technology, fashion-forward folks from all over have been able to express their innovative ideas.  By either posting “what I am currently wearing” photos or shots of everyday people, these bloggers have influenced designers, fashion editors and their viewers.

The Sartorialist
http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com

Scott Schuman, the mastermind behind The Sartorialist, began by taking photos of eclectic dressed New Yorkers and posting them online.  His blog took off (it has been selected as one of Time Magazine’stop 100 design influencers) and he was soon taking photos of eye-catching style all over.

With his blog, Schuman aims to capture the creativity that everyday people can impose on the fashion world.  The photos typically featured on his blog are of everyday people and not supermodels and well-dressed starlets.  The Sartorialist has influenced not just its followers but designers as well.

While not every person featured in The Sartorialist fits the mold of what’s “in-style,” browsing through photos of people expressing themselves can become a beautiful addiction.

Garance Doré

Garance Doré, a sassy French woman with an eye for style, is the currently the better half of Scott Schuman.  Her original blog is written in French, but she was able to find a translator for her English speaking audiences.

Unlike The Sartorialist, which focuses on street style, Doré’s blog is a combination of her own illustrations, interviews with stylish folks and comments on the fashion photos she takes.  She sometimes throws in a story featuring her own fashion escapades.

Her French upbringing adds a chic essence to her blog and offers her American viewers a brief insight into French culture.

Style Bubble

When it comes to expressing herself with no regrets, Susie Bubble is a sure winner.  Through Style Bubble, Bubble shows off her eccentric but fun fashion style that can appear odd to those who don’t understand how fun fashion can be.

The adorable Bubble loves to mix and match prints and colors in her wardrobe with such confidence that she is able to pull it off!

Her interest in fashion began as a way to rebel against her parents and not conform to her peers.  But now her kooky and fun style has become her biggest passion, and she’s not afraid to show it off to the world.

The Man Repeller
http://www.manrepeller.com/

While some people don’t care what people think of their eccentric style, other people like to call attention to some over-the-top trends.  Leandra Medine created the infamous The Man Repeller blog sparking the title “man repeller.”  Medine defines this phrase as someone who dresses in such a way that it literally repels the opposite sex.  She lists high fashion accessories such as shoulder pads, overalls and clogs.

Using humor, Medine’s blog likes to call attention to fashion trends that men (and some women) don’t understand.  But she does it in such a humorous way that even the fashion-obsessed find her blog enchanting.

However, while she pokes fun of these fashion trends, Medine’s outfits on her blog typically fit in the “man repelling” category.  And she is not afraid to admit to the public that she too is a “man repeller.”
