What better way to spend a Saturday than at a football game? Students packed the student section (named the “Tar Pit”) to support the Tar Heels in their first home game this season against Georgia Tech. Despite current construction in Kenan Stadium and sunny skies that resulted in sunburn for some, alumni and fans alike tailgated with friends and cheered on the team.

Carolina cheerleaders get the crowd fired up.

Rameses the mascot emanates enthusiasm.

Whether one is proudly painted blue from head to toe or is simply sporting a classic Carolina t-shirt, there are numerous ways to display the famous school colors.
 

The UNC Marching Tar Heels stand in the middle of the Tar Pit, turning it into an ocean of Carolina blue.  The band performed a set of songs from summer during halftime.

Sierra Piland is a Journalism – Graphic Design and Communication Studies – Media Production double major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, class of 2012. She is President of the Carolina Association of Future Magazine Editors (CAFME), the Ed2010 branch at UNC-CH and Design Director of UNC’s popular fashion magazine Kaleidoscope.
