Despite what most people say about the job market, Steve Burges is following his dream to become a museum curator. A double major in classical archaeology and art history, Steve loves studying Greek and Roman art, and dreams of working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He’s held two internships at the North Carolina Museum of Art and is a student tour guide at the Ackland Art Museum on campus. And don’t forget the archaeology – the summer after his freshman year of college, Steve went on a six-week field dig in Ostia, Italy.
When he’s not interning and visiting local museums, Steve leads a weekly group of volunteers to bring to-go boxes of Lenoir food to the homeless on Franklin Street. A Buckley Public Service Scholar, Steve also volunteers regularly with the Department of Public Safety and at Crescent Green Assisted Living in Carrboro. He also works at the Ancient World Mapping Center in Davis Library, updating and researching maps produced by professors at the center.
