The most entertaining people to follow on Twitter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

We all know that Twitter can be a great source for news and information. But let’s not forget that it’s also full of hilarious actors and comedians who use the website to craft 140-character jokes every day. Follow these accounts for a quick laugh to brighten your day whenever you check Twitter.

The Workaholics (@uncleblazer, @adamdevine, @ders808, @kylenewacheck, @jilliandeltoro)
First off, if you’re not familiar with the Comedy Central show Workaholics about a hard-partying group of recent college grads and the telemarketing firm where they work, you should be (go ahead and click that link up there and check out some clips). The writers/stars of the show, Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Kyle Newacheck, bring that same brand of fun-loving, weirdness-embracing comedy to their Twitter accounts.

The Onion (@TheOnion)
The Onion is a fictional newspaper and website that has been around for a few years. It’s worth following on Twitter just for its funny headlines. This account is especially fun if you follow serious news sources like the New York Times or the News and Observer, because if you’re scrolling through quickly you may not be able to tell what is a real headline and what is made up.

Samuel L. Jackson (@samuelLJackson)
Samuel L. Jackson is relatively new to Twitter, but he’s taken to the website quickly. His account is fun to follow because his tweets match his voice perfectly, from his delivery to his use of colorful language. You can imagine him saying all of his tweets in real life. But perhaps the funniest thing about his account is his many creative spellings of a certain expletive his characters are known for saying.

Stephen Colbert (@Stephenathome)
Much like The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert’s Twitter account is a mixture of topical humor and random absurdity. His tweets are most likely written by a team of writers that work for his show, but who cares? They’re some of the funniest and wittiest tweets on Twitter.

Paula Pell (@perlapell)
You may not recognize her name, but you probably know her work. Paula Pell has written for Saturday Night Live since the mid ‘90s and was a head writer from 2006-2008. So she’s a pretty funny lady. You also might know her from various small roles she’s played in TV shows and movies (Such as Ron Swanson’s mother on Parks and Recreation).  Following her is like following your fun aunt because her tweets are a mix of hilarity and motherly wisdom.

Mindy Kaling (@mindykaling)
Mindy Kaling seems like she’s always busy writing, directing and acting in funny TV shows and movies, but she somehow finds time to post hilarious tweets. Her style of comedy is easy to relate to, so following her makes you feel like she could be one of your best friends, and who wouldn’t want that?

Whatever your sense of humor, there are plenty of people to follow to make Twitter more fun, and this list is just a few to choose from. Who did I forget? Who are your favorite funny people to follow on Twitter?
