Campus Cutie: La’Mon Johnson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Most likely to put a smile on your face, is this week’s soulful and talented Campus Cutie, La’Mon Johnson.  He welcomed Her Campus to his tidy abode in Ram Village — yes, tidy — he’s one of the neat and orderly ones! We spoke to him as he enjoyed his smooth selection of early morning jams and got to know exactly why he’s such an eligible bachelor. With a love for photography, his stellar taste in music and his top chef skills, La’Mon is definitely worth your attention. Don’t believe me find out for yourself!

HC: So, tell me about yourself.

LJ: Ok, I’m La’Mon Johnson. I’m a junior from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Fayettville. Aka, Fayettenam. Aka, Two Six.

HC: Where did you go to high school?

LJ: At 71st  Fayetteville High — home of the falcons. In my high school you were only cool if you played basketball football, or had the latest Jordans. None of those really described me I was more of the studious type…

HC: Is that how you got into Carolina?

LJ: I guess so, I had a really good GPA, I was in a lot of organizations and I was also the captain of the tennis team to prove my leadership roles so I feel as though that held a lot of weight to my application….

HC: Ok so now you’re here! What do you love most about Carolina?

LJ: Carolina is a lot more than I thought it would be. The one thing that I love the most about Carolina would definitely have to be just the freedom — The freedom to do anything you want. I know a couple of people who have started a their own organizations. If you have an idea or something that you’re passionate about, you can do it. We have the resources to do just about anything that you want. That freedom is very cool to me.

HC: What you’re most likely to be seen doing on campus?

LJ: Ok, if you were to see me on campus, most likely I would be walking to class with my headphones in, quietly singing whatever is going to my headphones. I don’t really go to the pit that often, I’m usually on my way to the library to class or on my way to work. Also I happen to e a photographer, often times you may see me taking photos of a flower, or a bird sitting on a bench or some other artistic type things.

HC: So are you a singer?

LJ: Now I must tell you. I can’t go on tour with like Brian McKnight, or John Legend. No, I’m not saying that. Now what I am saying is that I just like singing. I’m not the best at it, not at all. I probably wouldn’t make the Clef Hangers or Harmonyx, but I don’t think that should matter in terms of whether I like to sing or not. But to answer your question, no. I can’t sing. So, don’t ask me to sing.

HC: Ok, no problem, no accapella requests. What’s your Favorite type of music?

LJ: My friends have always said — especially my roommates. They say I have a very wide range of things that I listen to.  It depends on really what I’m doing. If I’m walking to class, I want something to sing along to. If I’m studying I like something I can bump my shoulders with. If I had to pick one, I would definitely have to say that 90s R&B classic type of stuff. That stuff that freshman and sophomores won’t even know about or remember. That old stuff like that.

HC: Ok, and since we’re talking about things that you like, what kind of food do you like?

LJ: With food, I’m really, really simple. I don’t like that fancy stuff they show at five star restaurants. Just give me a burger and some fries, and I’m straight. A cookout tray will make me smile. Add a milkshake, I’ll even dance. Just basic stuff like that. I’m not picky at all.

HC: Well, do you cook?

LJ: I do cook.

HC: What do you cook?

LJ: I cook like stir-fry from time to time, penne pasta with like a nice Italian sausage marinara sauce. What else do I cook? Oh, a lot of people don’t know this or maybe they forgot, I’m half Philippino so I eat rice a lot. I can eat white rice all day any day. So I make a lot of rice with my meals. But some days I’ll just make some hot dogs, depending on how much time I have to cook.

HC: What organizations are you in on campus?

LJ: As of now I’m just a photographer for Ram Village Community Government, and I’m also an office assistant at campus recreation.

HC: Since we’re on the topic of work, what do you want to do for a living?

LJ: Well I’m a very strong advocate of the quote, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day of your life,” and I love photography so I would love to do photography for a living. It makes me happy, I feel good doing it. I also plan on marrying a doctor so my wife can be the main breadwinner and I can just have a whole bunch of nice pictures in our house. So yeah, doing photography for a living would be Ideal. It would be really fun. Marry me a sugamama.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

LJ: That would be 2023. And I’ll also be 30. Hopefully I’ll be married by then. Hopefully have 2 kids. I want 3 in total but maybe by then 2. Maybe I’ll be in some big city like Atlanta, New York taking pictures. Hopefully… I see myself being happy in 10 years, and all this Carolina struggle will have paid off.
