Campus Celebrity: Micheline Amisi ‘18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Who said first-years can’t be celebrities? Out-of-state student Micheline Amisi has definitely proven that wrong. This social butterfly is full of personality and will greet one out of every two people that walk by (statistic not scientifically proven).  Micheline Amisi was also the celebrity of her high school in Georgia. She graduated the top three percent of her class, was crowned homecoming queen, and was even class president numerous times. Micheline is the complete package, so watch out Carolina because this beauty will be leaving a legacy!

HC: What activities are you involved in at school?

MA: I am a member of Student Government under Multicultural Affairs and Diversity. I am also a counselor for Project Uplift, a member of the Oasis Club, and a member for the Minority Student Recruitment Committee.

HC: What do you want to get involved with in the future?

MA: I  want to continue to serve both on campus and in the community. I am satisfied with my current involvement, but I feel obligated to reach out and get more involved with service and outreach.

HC: What is your biggest inspiration to succeed?

MA: As a first generation student, I understand that my decisions will not only impact myself but my family and my community. I understand the bigger picture and acknowledge that my success is not my own.  Witnessing my father give up all he had to move to the States so that I can receive the education that I am blessed with is one of my greatest inspirations.

HC: What has been your favorite moment so far at UNC?

MA: I treat every moment as its own situation. I cannot name one moment that I would completely value over all the others. Simply being able to attend this great university is an adequate depiction of my “favorite moment.”

HC: Have you decided what you are majoring in? Why?

MA: I am on the Pre-Business track. I have always envisioned myself as a businesswoman and I believe that I could really use all my skills and make a great one. I want to combine my natural gifts with my passion and truly do what I love; business is just that.

HC: What do you want to do after college? As a career?

MA: I want to eventually work my way up in the business world and work in either sales and/or marketing for an established company. Some of my favorites ideas include Google and Microsoft.

HC: What advice do you have for incoming first-years?

MA: I would definitely tell the first-years to hit the ground running. Carolina has been a very humbling experience. It’s easy to get lost in the distractions while trying to get assimilated, but focus will solve this problem. Also, I would ask them not to stress too much about unfamiliar grades. For most of them, they will receive their first ever “C” on an assignment or even in a class. At the time, it may see like the world is coming to an end, but it is not. Life goes on and things get better!
