Whenever they walk in the room, girls instantly start shrieking. No, it’s not One Direction or Justin Bieber, it’s the Clef Hangers! Her Campus sat down with second-year clef Jeffrey Popkin to find out more about the boy behind the bowtie.
Name: Jeffrey Popkin
Class: 2015
Hometown: Rockville, Md.
Major: Public Policy
Her Campus: You get to sing a lot of different songs with the Clef Hangers, which is your favorite?
Jeffrey: “Carolina on My Mind.” It’s fun to sing a song that everyone knows and loves so much. I like when people sing along, too.
HC: What’s a guilty pleasure song that you seem to catch yourself singing?
Jeffrey: Oh, it’s definitely “Shape of My Heart” by the Backstreet Boys. I sing it all the time.
HC: What else are you involved in on campus?
Jeffrey: Being in the Clef Hangers takes up most of my time, but I am an Admissions Ambassador as well, which is a lot of fun.
HC: It seems like you have a lot on your plate. How do you manage your time?
Jeffrey: I don’t. In all seriousness though, I have a calendar on my desk that I try to write stuff down on.
HC: When you do get some free time, how do you like to spend it?
Jeffrey: I like to play Frisbee when I get a chance. I’ve been playing piano for 14 years, so that’s also something I like to do. I like to look at the stars, and I love to hike. Also, I really like rafting, and by rafting I mean sitting on a raft in the ocean. The beach is pretty much my favorite place to be…ever.
HC: What are your plans for the future?
Jeffrey: I’m hoping to study abroad over the summer, possibly in the Galapagos Islands. Also, I would love to get my pilot’s license someday.
HC: Okay, now for some fun questions. If you could have any job, what would it be?
Jeffrey: Astronaut.
HC: What is your favorite music to listen to?
Jeffrey: Country. Zac Brown Band is my favorite group. They write really simple, but meaningful lyrics. I’m hoping to see them live at some point.
HC: Favorite movie?
Jeffrey: The Dark Knight Rises. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a close second.
HC: Favorite place to go on Franklin Street?
Jeffrey: Walgreen’s.
HC: What’s your favorite feature on a girl?
Jeffrey: Her smile.
HC: What is your favorite food?
Jeffrey: I love trying new kinds of food, especially different types of ethnic foods. I’ve always wanted to try ants.
HC: What has been the best experience you have had at UNC so far?
Jeffrey: My favorite experience at UNC was coming back to Chapel Hill after my freshman year feeling like I was going home.
You can catch the Clef Hangers at their annual fall concert at Memorial Hall on Nov. 3 at Memorial Hall!
