When the twin brothers Jack and Finn behind the YouTube channel “JacksGap”, announced they were going to do a sponsored event to raise money for the ‘Teenage Cancer Trust’ charity, the first thing that came to mind was some sort of fun day. Little did their 3 million YouTube subscribers know that they had something amazing planned.
The boys had gotten together a group of YouTubers, photographers and friends to help them on a monumental trip across India called ‘The Rickshaw Run.’ This is a charity ride which requires the participants to travel across the country in a small contraption called a Tuk Tuk, which is essentially a three wheeled motorbike.
The trip consisted of a 7 man team that would be helping them on their expedition:
Jack Harries: YouTuber
Finn Harries: Designer, filmmaker and YouTuber
Harry Crowder: Photographer
Max Cantellow: Student and friend of ‘JacksGap’
Will Darbyshire: Filmmaker and member of the ‘JacksGap’ team.
Louis Cole: YouTuber and traveller
Ben Brown: YouTuber, film maker and was a pro kayaker
The group started in Shillong, driving 3000 kilometres in 13 days, meaning they travelled an average of 8 hours every day to reach their finish line in Jaisalmer.
While trying to complete this amazing trip the group also documented every moment, filming it on their cameras. The trip was posted on their YouTube channel in a four episode arch so they could show their subscribers and fans everything they got up to.
‘The Rickshaw Run’ diaries are amazing to watch and you get to see the group face some amazing challenges across the way. The group, which became called the ‘Mother Tuckers’, have said they have plans to do another trip on this scale so keep a look out for that on their Twitter: @JacksGap and YouTube: www.youtube.com/user/JacksGap
Internet users around the world rallied together to help the group reach their target of $100,000, and we are happy to report they smashed it. At the end of the trip the group had managed to raise an amazing $177,496, with every single bit going to the ‘Teenage Cancer Trust.’ Also everyone who donated got entered into a chance to win a meal with the twins as well as some lucky people getting other prizes, such as t-shirts and posters designed by Finn.
It’s really heart-warming to see the group so passionate in raising money for this brilliant charity. We hope to see more from them in the future!
