Jujitsu Society undertake Gold’s Gym Challenge

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CCCU chapter.

So its almost March and many people by now have probably given up on their New Years Resolutions. Well the Jujitsu society most certainly hasn’t and is now undertaking it’s very own Gold’s Gym Challenge.

In America a three month competition is held, with the main objective to achieve any fitness goal desired, like building as much muscle as possible, losing weight or toning up to look aesthetically pleasing. The winner is decided by Gold’s Gym and presented with $75,000 in cash (not a bad motivator if your resolution was to get fit).  In the spirit of the competition 12 members of the Jujitsu society are undertaking this challenge… and much to my dismay I too will be taking part with them!

Speaking with Kaden James, a member of the society, he said “I organised the Gold’s Gym Challenge as an opportunity to get fit and to encourage others to do so as well. I personally believe that the challenge will inspire the participants into what they can do and what they will achieve. Our members are participating to increase their own health and fitness, and recruit new members who will also take part in the challenge.”

So what exactly does this challenge involve? Well firstly every member’s height and weight is taken. The BMI and body fat percentage is calculated, with a picture taken of the participant as a beginning marker. After this it’s down to the individual’s goal.

My goal is to finally achieve the beach body I have always dreamt of. This means no more takeaways, chocolate, syrup favoured coffees (which for me is almost impossible! I can’t get through the morning without my large vanilla latte from Costa) or anything tasty. Instead I swap these delicious treats for fruit and spend almost every day at the gym, either running for hours on end or lifting weights. Trust me when I say this, I will most certainly be counting down the days!

And now for the embarrassing part. For the next few months I will be updating you with my progress, stresses and torture, so I need to tell you my stats for the beginning of this journey:

  • My Height: 186cm
  • My Weight: 81.9kg
  • My BMI: 23.7
  • My Body Fat Percentage: 20.7%

If you are interested in finding out anymore details about the Jujitsu society you can email the Club President, Summer Hubble, who will provide you with all the information.
