Season’s Greetings: 7 Signs It’s Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CAU chapter.

The season for happiness, home cooked meals and gifts is approaching. For college students, this is our time to keep our GPA’s up and finesse these finals. In addition to, gearing up for homecooked dinners that are waaaay better than school meals. This wonderful time of the year remind us that its the holiday season! However those of you who are still hungover from October, here a few indicators that the holiday season is upon us:

1. Weather. One day, you will be walking around jacketless with shorts and sandals. The next week, you will have to wear layers on top of layers because it feels like you are an eskimo in Antarctica. Let’s not talk about daylight savings. Naps no longer exist after that 2 o’clock class. You will wake up thinking it’s an entirely different day because it feels like midnight at just 5 o’clock in the afternoon.

2. Wardrobe. It’s time to throw those joyous bright colors back into those storage units and bins. Get in tune with the “sweater weather.” Your wardrobe now consists of deep reds, olive greens, mustard yellows and other deep, rich hues. Let’s not forget the best color of them all: BLACK! There will definitely be some gothic chic vibes during the holiday season.

3. Movember. The wonderful time of the year when men commit to growing their beards out, also known as No Shave November. Who doesn’t love a guy with a flannel and a beard? YUMMY. However, men aren’t the only ones with a master plan for November. We women have established No Makeup November. This is our time to allow our skin to breathe and flourish with our natural beauty. You go girl!

4. Black Friday. Suddenly every commercial reminds us how broke we are going to be when trying to purchase gifts for the holiday. Oh, the thrill!  -__-

5. Ice Skating. Figure Skating? What is that? This is the time to bundle up in your favorite hat and scarf, grab some hot chocolate and head to your local outdoor ice skating rink with your bae. Do not fret, single gals and gents. Take a big group of friends and have a ball. What is more fun than a group of friends struggling on ice together? Memories are definitely in the making!

6. Holiday Specials. The wonderful feeling when ABC Family advertises its 25 Days of Christmas television movies is almost unbearable. This is the perfect time to lounge around the house in your holiday pajamas watching Charlie Brown, Home Alone and every other holiday special. For the days when you have to go to work, your favorite holiday music will be on rotation on the radio to get you in the spirit! The ultimate confirmation is Boyz II Men x Let It Snow; when you hear that, you know the time has arrived!

7. Food. This is the REAL reason everyone loves the holidays. Grandma has racked up for the season and is more than ready to prepare the feast of the year. Not only is Grandma prepared, but the stores have restocked on the best seasonal snacks. Time to get your egg nog, cookies and pumpkin-flavored desserts. Don’t forget those delicious Hershey’s Kisses and your other favorite chocolate treats!

We cannot wait to fully enjoy the holiday season with all of our close friends and family. When you combine good vibes, great people and even better food, you are bound to have an amazing time!

Season’s Greetings, Collegiettes!
