Time Off: 5 Books That Are Perfect To Relax From College And Work

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

It’s no secret that we are living in a very stressful time. Not only there is a pandemic around the world, but also having to catch up with college and work while social distancing can be very challenging. Due to that, sometimes we all need to forget all about it and have some time relax and reading can be a great way of doing that.

Books are one of the best getaways from our reality, as they transport us to whole new universe. Thinking about that, we gathered a list of 5 books that are easy to read and have an interesting plot that will involve you and take your mind off the daily stress.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Rainbow Rowell has many books that are easy to read and relaxing, but we chose Fangirl to this list because it can also be very relatable to those who are having a hard time adjusting in college and starting the “adult life”. The story is about Cath, a girl that has been a big fan of the series of books called Simon Snow her whole life and she even writes fanfiction about it. Once she goes to college and her twin sister, who she was very close with, decides she wants more space, Cath doesn’t feel ready to let go of her old life and get into this new world.

The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Read

Evelyn Hugo was a very popular and mysterious movie star from the 50s to the 80s and now, when she is 79, she decided to tell her life story to Monique, an unknown reporter who has no idea why this famous Hollywood star choose her to reveal her life secrets. This is the type of book that you have to read without knowing much about it, because every aspect of it will surprise you. If you are a fan of well-written complex characters and books that once you start reading, you can’t stop, this is perfect from you. Also, if you have already read this, you should check out Daisy Jones & The Six, another great book from the same author.

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

If you enjoy mysteries, what better than the queen of crimes? In this book, Hercule Poirot, the famous detective present in many of Christie’s books, goes on a vacation trip to Egypt with many different characters, including the powerful heir Linnet Ridgeway. When she is suddenly murdered, Poirot is the one who has to solve the crime. This book is great not only because it gets you involved and interested in the mystery, but it also takes you a trip to all the beautiful sights around the Nile. It will definitely make forget everything else.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

This is the first book from a trilogy called The Infernal Devices and even though Cassandra Clare is more known for her series The Mortal Instruments, these books, which are centered in the same universe but many years before, are considered by most the author’s best work. For those who want to get into some fantasy and escape reality, this can be a good option considering it will not only take you into a world of shadowhunters, warlocks and werewolves, but also transport you to Victorian London during the 19th century. Plus – incredible characters and a breathtaking love triangle.

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Alex is the son of the president of the United States, Henry is the prince of England and they hate each other. However, when they have to pretend to be friends because of a diplomatic incident, everything changes. This book is a romantic comedy with a classic haters to lovers plot, in which the characters have to face difficult decisions due to the positions they occupy. There’s no doubt it will make your heart warmer and your mind ligher after you read it.
