Marie Antoniette, Mary Jane, or recently Rose Gordon. They all come from one single person, Kirsten Dunst – one of the biggest names among Hollywood stars.

Being part of the industry for so long has never been an easy task, especially when you’re a woman. Through all her years as a nominee for multiple awards, it was in 2021 only that the Academy recognized Kirsten Dunst as a claimant for the Best Supporting Actress category, for the role of Rose Gordon in ‘The Power of the Dog’.

Despite carrying a huge baggage of recognition with important roles, like working with Sofia Coppola – one of the most influential cinematographers there is –, and claiming a few Golden Globes, Cannes, Critic’s Choice, and more, she still seems to not be taken seriously by mainstream critique.

For some reason, The Oscars are still distant from her reality. It took decades for her to receive her first nomination. ‘The Power of the Dog’ was so well played on the screens, that was more than enough to lead her into the golden statue chase.

What was supposed to be one of the most memorable moments of the night, in fact, was, but for the wrong reasons. Amy Schumer, comedian, and hostess for the Oscars, created a moment that won’t be forgotten so soon.

Schummer went to the bench where Kirsten and her husband, Jesse Plemons – also part of the cast – were and made a joke claiming that the actress was just a seat filler in the audience, saying it was about time to leave. All of this while pulling her out of her seat to talk to her husband.

The nominee’s reaction became trending online. Her expression in the corner of the camera displayed discomfort around the situation. Quickly, the hashtags ‘Amy’ and ‘Kirsten’ went to the world’s trending topics on Twitter, becoming one of the most talked about scenes of the night.

After the repercussion of the case, the comedian made a post on her Instagram in which she said: ‘That was a choreographed bit she was in on. Wouldn’t disrespect that queen like that’. Controversial positioning, since by the reaction of the couple, it was nothing less than a very inopportune moment.

The Academy failed multiple times on the 2022 Oscars. The public now expects a remodel of the hosts’ behavior for the next events. Letting no guest go through situations of such disrespect again.
