Series to Watch Out in 2017!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

If you thought 2016 was the climax of TV series, you know nothing about what 2017 may bring. The beginning of the year is the time to look up the new and renewed series, especially because teasers, trailers and dates are being released. Her Campus has a preview of what’s coming up over this year, including A LOT of series finales and a few spoilers. Keep it up and make your list!

New Shows

Ok, let’s begin with the surprises. Channels and streaming services booked a full year for series lovers and we’re sorry to announce that the social life you’ve wanted last year may not happen again.

Big Little Lies

Premiere: February 20th

Based on a novel by Liane Moriarty, the new HBO limited series is one of the most expected shows of 2017 and calls out for its cast: Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley. The story is about three mothers of first graders, whose apparently perfect lives unravel to the point of murder. Sounds interesting, right?

Marvel’s Iron Fist

Premiere: March 17th

Yeah, we’ll have a new Marvel’s show! In this one, Danny Rand returns to New York City, after being presumed dead for 15 years, to reclaim his family company. However, he must choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist, a superhero with incredible martial arts skills. This is the last of four Netflix’s shows that will lead up to Marvel’s Defenders crossover.

Marvel’s Defenders

Ok, after telling you about Iron Fist I MUST talk about the crossover, right? The Defenders is a superhero team starring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Also from Netflix, the show is set a few months after Daredevil’s second season. Excited?

Santa Clarita Diet

Series of Unfortunate Events

Premiere: January 13th

I know you already heard about Series of Unfortunate Events and even if the premiere was a month ago, it’s causing some buzz: you’ll either love it or hate it.

Lemony Snicket’s novel was first adapted into a movie and now came to Netflix. The eight episodes are based on the first four novels (the whole series has 13 books) and introduce the Baudelaire children: Violet, Klaus and Sunny. After their parents’ death, they meet their new tutor, Count Olaf, and their problems soon begin. Oh, yeah: Neil Patrick Harris is Count Olaf!

13 Reasons Why

Premiere: March 31st

[TW: Suicide]

13 Reasons Why is a must watch on this list. The Netflix’s drama is based on a novel by Jay Asher and produced by Selena Gomez. It begins when Clay receives a box from Hannah, his classmate and crush who recently committed suicide. The content of the box? Cassette tapes explaining the girl’s decision to end her own life.

Renewal Shows

Now, the most important part: did my favorite shows get renewed? You may find a full Renewal scorecard here, yet there are a few series we’re dying to know about what’s next!

House of Cards

What we already know: Michael Kelly, who plays the Chief of Staff Doug Stramper, told “Diário de Pernambuco” that someone will definitely die. Is it Frank? The rumors are all over the internet.

Orange is the New Black

Premiere: June 9th

What we already know: The entire season will take place over three days and will be very intense. Other rumors are about Taystee getting revenge after Poussey’s death and Piper dying (WHAT?). But there’s only one thing we really want to know: will Daya pull the trigger? CAN’T WAIT ANYMORE!

The Walking Dead

Series Finale

The saddest thing is to say goodbye to our favorite shows. Yeah, we know the feeling. Right now, we can only hope that our beloved characters have the best finale possible.

Bates Motel

Premiere: February 20th

What we already know: After Norma Bates’ death last season, we were expecting a closure to the series. Here it comes: the 5th season is all about “Psycho” from Noman’s perspective. And it gets better! Guess who is Marion Crane? RIHANNA! The singer/actress is a big fan of the show, so the producers asked her if she wanted the part. And who wouldn’t want it, right?

Pretty Little Liars

Premiere: April 18th

What we already know: 7 seasons and now it’s all about the #PLLENDGAME: Alison being pregnant, Toby’s death and Mary Drake’s lost daughter is… Spencer? Uber A seems to be the last of these girls’ problems. We really need these final episodes!

The Vampire Diaries

Premiere: January 13th

We don’t know if we’re ready to say goodbye to the Salvatore brothers, but it’s already happening. We only have a few more episodes before the end and things are going crazy with Stefan and Cade’s deal. We even saw the pictures of Nina Dobrev on set for the final episode! Are we getting emotional yet?
