Blue Beetle is the newest and first Latino superhero to enter DCEU, DC’s cinematography universe. The upcoming movie is set to premiere this year on August 17th in Brazil.
And here’s everything we know about the film so far:
WHO IS TED KORD?
There is one thing you need to know before we discuss the plot:
Who is Ted Kord?
Well, in the comic book, Ted is the second Blue Beetle and the owner of Kord Industries, a scientific industry. But why do you need to know who is he? Because, although he didn’t appear in the trailer, some important characters are related to him, like Jenny Kord and Victoria Kord. And we are expecting him to be mentioned in this movie.
ORIGIN OF THE BLUE BEETLE
In the recent trailer, only a few things were revealed to us. One of those things is how Jaime Reyes becomes the Blue Beetle.
Reyes receives an alien biotechnology relic in a burger box (yes, a burger box!) from Jenny Kord, that asks him to guard it with his life. But when he comes home, he opens the relic and the object immediately chooses him as a symbiotic host.
Jenny describes the ancient thing as a world-destroying weapon named Scarab, that is designed to protect its host.
ABOUT THE VILLAINS
There were two villains in the trailer, but not much was revealed about them.
Played by Susan Sarandon, Victoria Kord, together with the military, is after the Scarab saying it’s hers. Some fans are she could be Ted’s sister.
The other bad guy is Carapax, the Indestructible Man, played by Raoul Trujillo, whose single line in the trailer is: “The love you feel for your family makes you weak”. So we can only imagine Blue Beetle will have to defend his beloved ones from him.
ABOUT THE MAIN CHARACTER
The star of the movie, the blue beetle himself, is going to be played by the American-Mexican actor, Xolo Maridueña (from Cobra Kai).
Jaime is a post-grad who is looking for a brighter future after college. So, he goes on a job interview at Kord Industries. A day that changed his life forever, because it’s where he got the burger box with the Scarab.
From the trailer, we could also see the deep connection he has with his family, especially with his sister, that seems to be one of his best friends.
BRAZIL IN HOLLYWOOD
Our favorite brazilian actress is also in the movie! Bruna Marquezine is going to be Jenny.
There is nothing yet confirmed about her character, but she is going to be Jaime’s love interest. Fans are speculating that she is the daughter of Ted Kord.
Bruna’s reaction when she found out she got the role is super exciting! She immediately started crying.
