Get To Know More About 'Dune': The New Movie From Denis Villeneuve

The Dune franchise first began back in the 1960s, with the publication of the original book by Frank Herbert. It was an instant classic, a genre-defining tale for science fiction and one of the firsts to bring the concept of an entire interconnected universe. It won the first-ever Nebula Award for Best Novel and tied for the 1966 Hugo, meaning it is one of the best selling books of all time.

  1. 1. "Until now all of the atempts to bring the story to screens have failled"

With 23 books and counting, Herbert wrote five sequels before his death in 1986, and his son continue to go on with 17 more, based on his father's notes. But, even though Dune has a great and passionate fandom, until now all of the atempts to bring the story to screens have failled. Being worth to recall 1984's David Lunch film as one the greatest examples of why people shouldn't adapt Dune

  2. 2. The Upcoming Movie

And yet, a lot of new photos from the upcoming Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) with great names in the cast left the fans hoping that, this time, things will actually succeed.

  3. 3. The cast

If the franchise works out, this is probably going to be a game change to Timothée Chalamet's career. The young actor, most known by Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird, is going to play Paul Atreides, one of the main characters, the heir to House Atreides.

  4. 4. Zendaya is Chani

Zendaya is on fire! After staring as Michelle Jones in the Marvel's Spider Man and playing Rue in the HBO's sucess Euphoria, the girl is back with this significant role. In Dune, she is Chani, Paul's eventual love interest. She's the Fremen daughter of Imperial Planetologist Liet-Kynes. The Fremen are the native people of Arrakis (the planet where the story is located), and Chani is someone who Paul begins having visions of when the family arrives to live on the planet. When they meet, he believes that he knows her, but to her, he's a total stranger.

  5. 5. A Great Amount of Details

One of the things that Denis, the director, wants is to bring a lot of details to the franchise to do justice to the books. And that is probably going to happen with the greatness of the hole production.

From the photos released by the press, we can see the particullarities of the outfits, for example. Arrakis, being a desert planet, everyone who walks there, to function on the surface, must wear what is known as a "stillsuit."

And, besides Chalamet and Zendaya, the cast's still surreal. We can count with Oscar Isaac (Star Wars) playing Paul's father, Duke Leto Atreides, Jason Momoa playing Duncan Idaho, the swordmaster of House Atreides, and mentor to Paul and a lot of other names like Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, David Dastmalchian, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chang Chen, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. Powerful, huh?

Dune is currently scheduled to arrive just before the winter holidays on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020.
