On September 2019, Clarissa Cardozo, 21, decided to follow her dreams and start her own business, the confectionery MIMO Doceria. Since her childhood, she has always enjoyed baking and making chocolate sweets for her family and friends. However, back then, Clarissa thought baking was just a hobby. She didn’t think it was possible to start a business on her own.
The young entreprenur was interviewed by Her Campus Cásper Líbero, and told us the highs and the lows of owning a business at a young age.
- “No matter what I did, or where I went, it always felt like a piece of my life was missing, and that piece was the confectionery”

Before pursuing her dream of owning a confectionery, she focused on other career paths, but it always felt like something wasn’t right. “No matter what I did, or where I went, it always felt like a piece of my life was missing, and that piece was the confectionery,” Clarissa said.
She then realized that her passion for baking was more than just a hobby. As she started thinking about the possibility of starting a business, Clarissa was surprised by the support she received from her family, friends and boyfriend.
Her parents decided to give her not only emotional support, but also helped financially. Her brother helped by taking professional pictures of the chocolate sweets to post on social media. Her boyfriend gave her business advice. Her closest friends helped Clarissa to publicize her brand by sharing it on their own social media accounts and giving good reviews.

Even though Clarissa receives a lot of help and support from friends and family, the hardest part of owning a confectionery is making all of the products and sweets, buying ingredients and contacting customers. That part is all on her hands.
“It is complicated to romanticize and glamorize the idea of entrepreneurship, you have to fight and go after things. As a self-employed person, the company is you; there are days when I’m up all night working.”
Nevertheless, Clarissa also enjoys being her own boss, and feels proud of herself for starting MIMO Doceria. “Being an entrepreneur is also a good thing, it is amazing to bring to reality everything that you have imagined, and to depend only on yourself.”
First Clarissa wants to stabilize her brand and have loyal customers, and for the future, she hopes to have her own store. Right now, the entrepreneur is enjoying the results of her hard work.
