This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

The book Cain’s Jaw, written in 1934 by Torquemada (pseudonym of The Observer’s word compiler), has been a great success on social networks, mainly on TikTok. That’s because the crime thriller is unlike any you’ve ever seen.

In the book, six murders happen by different assassins. The crimes are described as the book unfolds, but with a very important twist: the pages are completely out of order and the reader’s job is to put them in the correct order to unravel the mystery. Because it is a book unlike any other, the reader will be able to highlight the pages to help in the great discovery.

After 90 years, the Cain’s Jawbone remains a secret that few people have managed to solve. In the last year, the Brazilian Camila del Rio, only 16 years old, discovered the great mysteries behind the book and was the first person to send the correct answer to the publisher Intrínseca.

On social media, the book caught the eye internet users and caused a series of videos to be published. Content creator Brandy Mae is one of those looking for the answer and she is sharing videos trying to figure it out.

So, if you are one of those readers who are craving the truth, here are some tips:

1. STICKY NOTES

They will be your best friends on this journey. With it you’ll be able to make notes and connections about possible murders.

2. PRONOUNS

When you’re reading, pay attention to the pronouns, after all this book has more than one narrator and can be a man (he), woman (she) or animal (It). This way, you will be able to make more connections between the crimes.

3. HAVE A NOTEBOOK NEAR YOU

Write down all the names and characteristics that appear in the book. Some attributes can help you decode who is narrating.

4. DATES AND PLACES

To understand the timeline of the story, pay attention to the days. They can appear in codes such as “Day of something”.

Knowing where the story is taking place is also of great importance, as this will give you more information about where the murder took place and even find out who killed one of the characters.

5. DO NOT TEAR THE PAGES WITHOUT PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Try to read the entire book even if it is in random order to have prior knowledge. That way, you’ll know which pages to highlight first and where to start.

Now is the time to start working and try to solve one of the hardest mysteries in the world! Good luck!
