It’s vacation again, but one more time, we still can’t travel because of the pandemic. But don’t worry, pretty soon we will be able to go back and explore the world. While we wait our time to get vaccinated, we travel by the screens: watching movies that takes us to a beautiful place we dream to travel. Her Campus at Cásper Líbero selected seven movies that will make you laugh, cry and wish you could be one of the characters, in places like Italy, Greece, Mexico, Spain, Hawaii, South Africa, England and many others!

Mamma Mia (2008)

Of course the first movie of this list had to be a classic. If you never watched Mamma Mia you should do it right now! The romantic comedy musical is set in an island in Greece. It tells the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), that finds an old diary of her mom, Donna (Meryl Streep), talking about three man who could possibly be her father. With her upcoming wedding, she invites them all to her party.

The island where the movie happens is absolutely gorgeous and the landscapes are amazing to see. All songs are from the pop group ABBA. After a huge success, the movie had a sequel “Mamma Mia: Here we go again” that tells the story of her mother when she was getting involved with those men.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Paints (2005)

The movie follows the story of four best friends that found a pair of pants that fit all them perfectly. Getting ready to their first summer apart, they decide to share the jeans during vacation so each of them can stay a time with it. All of the girls go to different places.

Lena is visiting her grandparents in Santorini, Greece; Bridget is going to soccer camp in Baja California, Mexico; Carmen is visiting her father in South Carolina; and Tibby is staying home. The movie is talks about friendship, love, ripening and a fun summer!

 Ibiza (2018)

Of course Ibiza couldn’t be placed anywhere but in the beautiful party island of Spain. It tells the story of Harper, that is sent to Barcelona, Spain on a business trip and her two best friends decide to come with her and enjoy the time off.

In a party Harper meets a DJ and gets involved with him. The next day, she want to meet him again so the girls decide to go in his show in Ibiza and party hard while they are there. The movie is a fun, soft romantic comedy to watch and remember how fun it is to travel with friends and party while we still can’t do that.

Just Go With It (2011)

Starred buy the great Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, the romantic comedic tells the story of Danny (Adam Sandler), a doctor who had his heart broken in the day of his wedding because the girl was only marring him because for interest in his money. Many years later, he keeps wearing the ring in bars and club to pretend his in a bad marriage and get women, avoiding a real romantic commitment.

However, he meets a girl, Palmer, that he really likes, but she founds his fake wedding ring. For her not to break up with him, he pretends Katherine (Jennifer Aniston) is the wife Danny is divorcing from. He starts pretending to Palmer he has a fake family, with the two kids of his best friend, Katherine.

They all travel to Hawaii and that’s when the real mess start. With beautiful landscapes, great beaches and crystal clear ocean, is the best place for a family trip, but maybe not under these circumstances. It’s the best movie to laugh out loud and watch with friends and family.

The Holiday (2006)

The Holiday tells the story of two women: Iris (Kate Winslet) from London, England and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) from Los Angeles, California in United States. Going through heartbreaks, they both arrange a home exchange trough internet to escape their towns during the Christmas and holiday season.

While trying to adapt to their “new life”, they meet new people and make friends, while enjoying the beautiful an unique Los Angeles and London, two very different places. Amanda ends up falling love while Iris makes great friendships. The movie is a cute romantic comedy to watch and imagine traveling to those cities and experiencing a life there.

Blended (2014)

Another family comedic movie with Adam Sandler, Blended follows the story of Jim and Lauren (Drew Barrymore), two single parents who went on a blind date together and never wanted to see each other again afterwards.

To their surprise, Lauren’s friend Jen has broken up with her boyfriend Dick, that is Jim’s boss, although she and Dick had already paid for a trip to a great resort in South Africa. Lauren decides to use Jen’s portion of the vacation without knowing that Jim is going to use Dick’s as well. That way, they both end up at the same African safari resort with their children and are forced to stay together.

The place of the movie is really amazing and the resort look like a fun place to go with the family. You will watch thinking of how bad you wanted to go in a trip like that. Also, the laughs are guaranteed!

Letters to Juliet (2010)

The movie is placed in the beautiful Italy, starting in Verona, the city of love, scenery of Romeo and Juliet, and going on the surroundings of the city, to places like Sienna. It tells the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), that works in New York as a fact checker, but she really wants to be a writer.

She goes to Italy with her fiancée, Victor, in a pre-honeymoon. While she is there, she goes to Juliet’s house and discovers that the thousands of “letters to Juliet” left in Juliet’s Verona courtyard are typically answered by the “Secretaries of Juliet”.

Sophie asks to join them and accidentally finds an unanswered letter by Claire Smith from 1957. She answers it and within a week the now-elderly Claire arrives in Verona with her grandson Charlie. After that, following the advice in Sophie’s reply, Claire decides to look for her long-lost love, Lorenzo, and of course Sophie decides to go along and write a story about it. Letter’s to Juliet is an amazing romantic movie that is placed in a really passionate place: the beautiful Italy.
