With the amount of new series that appear each day, choosing one to watch has become a difficult task. Thinking about that, we created a list with five sitcoms that you should watch on Netflix, so grab a blanket, make some popcorn and turn on your TV.

1. One Day At a Time

One Day At a Time currently has 3 seasons and was based on the namesake series that aired on CBS from December 16, 1975, until May 28, 1984. It tells the Alvare’s story, a cuban-american family living in the United States. Each character lives their own drama, and that’s why the series is so captivating: you end up identifying with them. The struggles of becoming a teenager, discovering yourself as part of the LGBT community, being a single mother or just being latino and living on the United States are some of the issues tackled in the series. In a light and sensitive way, it is a perfect show to watch with your family.

2. Atypical

Atypical focuses on the life of the 18-year-old Sam Gardner, who is on the autism spectrum. Although the storyline seems to be a bit cliche, it is guaranteed to you that there´s much more than just Sam and his family dealing with his condition. Each character has a different path and different problems to deal with. While Sam tries to handle all the pressure of being in senior year and having a new girlfriend, his sister, Casey, is trying to figure it out who she really is and what she wants to do. Besides that, their parents are also involved on their own drama.

Overall, the show is all about a normal family trying to have a good life besides all the obstacles that we all go through sometimes. It’s an amazing and interesting story that once you start watching it, you won´t stop until you get to the last episode.

3. Blooklyn 99

Brooklyn 99 is about the detectives of the 99th precinct of New York. The story is started when a new commandant arrives, Captain Holt, and the rest of them try to adapt to his new rules, specially Jake Peralta, who definitely doesn’t know how to behave in a work environment. At first sight, the new captain seems a little rough, but as time goes by they all become close friends. Each character has a strong personality and it’s impossible not to fall in love with at least one of them.

Besides all the jokes, the series also talks about some issues, such as homophobia and racism in a very subtle way. If you enjoy a great love story you should also watch this show, you won’t be disappointed with some of the new couples during the episodes.

4. Big Mouth

We all know how it feels like to go through puberty and this is what this animated series talks about. Created by Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett, the show follows a group of 7th graders and their respective hormone monsters, which are made to represent their mental and physical changes. It is easy to see yourself as one of the characters and that’s what makes the series even funnier: we’ve all been there. Apart from that, it also talks about mental health and conditions such as depression and anxiety.

The episodes are short and you can watch them out of order, since the storyline doesn’t connect them. It is a pretty funny show and you’ll probably have a good laugh.

5. The Good Place

What do you think that happens after we die? For Michael Schur, the creator of the show, we either go to “the good place” or “the bad place”, depending on our actions on earth. The plot follows Eleanor Shellstrop, a selfish woman who end up in “the good place” by accident and, after realizing that, puts all of her efforts into becoming a good person.

The series has many twists and turns and it’s impossible to watch just one episode. It’s an easy watching series that make us think about ourselves, our decisions and also about the world situation nowadays.
