4 Skills for Boosting Your Resumé

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

As college students, we are constantly wondering what else can we do to improve our resume and nail a great internship or job. More than looking for a 10 GPA student or the overly social college butterfly, there are some skills and set of knowledges that can be usefull

Design

From Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator to knowing how to beautify a powerpoint presentation, Design is a important skill set for any type of jobs, even the most bureaucratic ones. Specially in Communications areas, turning a boring infographic into an interesting one, can be a difficult thing for some and easy for others. However, the more you look for references, research and watch tutorials, the more creative you make and better in designing solutions and solving problems.

Coding

Coding in JAVA, HTML, CSS or any other type can look like a new language. Sometimes more similar to Chinese than to English or Portuguese. But, knowing how to code gives you more freedom with computer, website designing and problem-solving. Furthermore, in a world where your computer or cellphone are almost as important as body organs, knowing how to diagnose and improve each system can turn you into a more efficient professional.

Business/Management/Economy Knowledge

A good knowledge on economy and management is useful in everyday life for your personal expenses, but it is also a good requirement for more senior and upper level positions.Companies want executives that along with striving in their expertise areas are aware of other sectors of the company and can present a reasonagle approach to task and budget implementations. Also, if one day you wish to have your own company, it is good to be your own accountant for a while and manage initial expenses.

Speaking more than 1 language

Besides your native language, it is important to speak fluently a second language. If you are English native, Spanish, French or German can be good options. For a Portuguese or Spanish speaker, English is definitely the top first choice. Being bilingual makes your brain create more connections and also makes you more aware of your own language and how it works.
