5 Signs You’ve Overbooked Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Case chapter.

1. Let’s face it, your calendar is a hot mess. At this point, it’s barely even legible and it’s only September. Every event and activity you could possibly go to or that you’re even remotely interested in is penciled in. You have so much going on that you have to add sticky notes onto your calendar because there is just not enough space. It might be time to start considering getting a larger calendar or maybe, just maybe, you should minimize your schedule.

2. There is nothing in the world that you want more than sleep. With such a booked schedule and homework on top of it, you’re lucky if you go to bed before 3am. Getting 6 hours of sleep is a blessing and should not be wasted. Actually, you’re so desperate for sleep that you’re willing to sleep in the middle of the Quad for an hour between classes.

3. Friends? Who needs friends? Despite being involved in so many activities, you don’t really have any friends. You don’t have time to hang out with people and really connect with them; you’re too busy maintaining your crazy schedule or trying to sleep.

4. You’re on a mission. Whether it’s running to soccer practice or you’re headed on the way to KSL to cram in some last minute studying, you’re in a hurry and nobody better get in your way. You’re goal is to get from A to B as fast as possible, and if someone is in your way, you’re not above shoulder bumping them out of the way.

5. Above all, you’re incredibly stressed. You know you’ve overbooked yourself, but you don’t know how to stop. You spend a lot of time thinking about your mental stability and not actually fixing it. So much is going on in your life that you don’t have the time to actually enjoy your college experience or at the very least relax. Those activities that you signed up for fun are now driving you insane.

Take a deep breath, relax, and take a moment to think. You’ve clearly put more on your plate than you can handle, but that’s okay, because you don’t have to keep doing it all. It’s perfectly okay for you to not do everything this university has to offer. Doing a few clubs is better than joining as many as possible just to look good on a resume. So go look at that crazy calendar of yours and see what you can get rid of. Your sanity will thank you later.
