Rawan Abujoub: “A Passion for People”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Hailing all the way from Winchester, Massachusetts, Rawan Abujoub has a passion for people. The communications major with a minor in music studies is truly commited to what she does with RRRA, Phi Sigma Sigma, and other organizations around campus, and it shows through her hard work and dedication to making a difference in her community.

For her first year at Carleton University, Abujoub had the classic residence experience. She enjoyed herself, but also felt that something was missing.

“My residence life was not what I expected it to be at all. I had fun, but it was mostly unorganized fun with my friends. There wasn’t really much for us to do outside of res,” said Abujoub.

Abujoub wanted to change that. She felt that first years needed the opportunity to get involved in activities beyond just partying in residence.

So Rawan joined the sorority Phi Sigma Sigma. She was looking to join a smaller community, get more involved, and expand her network of friends. She said it was the best decision she ever made. Along with creating close bonds with those in her sorority and the Greek community, Abujoub also holds a position on the executive board of Phi Sigma Sigma, as well as a spot as chairman.

After joining Phi Sigma Sigma, Abujoub was inspired to create more events for students like her, who wanted more from residence life. Under the guidance of a fellow sorority sister, she was able to achieve her goal by becoming the Vice President of Programming at RRRA at the end of her second year. Her duties now include running initiatives for budget-conscious students, working with RRRA’s street team and programming committee to organize events, and working to make the lives of students in residence as memorable as possible.

In addition to all of this, Rawan is also involved with Carleton Model United Nations and the Ottawa Men’s Mission. She also worked as a promoter for the Junos at Scotiabank Place.

“I love to work with people and ensure that people have as many priceless experiences as they can,” said Abujoub.

And she encourages students to get involved, saying it is not as difficult as it may seem. She suggests that they reach out to groups on campus and try to learn more about those that interest them.

“Anybody can reach these same goals, or even better goals; all it takes is hard work and commitment,” said Abujoub.

After all is said and done, Rawan Abujoub is definitely an inspiration to anyone looking to get more involved in the Carleton community. She is genuine, motivated, and puts her heart completely into everything she does.

“If I could say one thing to every student I talk to, it would be to get as involved as possible during your next few years at university and step outside of your boundaries at least once. You wont regret it.”
