Comfort Food, Dorm Style!

BREAKFAST

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal (Add an egg!)

This recipe is an ideal way to start your morning, especially with the added egg for protein! 

You will need: 

-1 egg

-1/3 cup of milk

-1 (1.23 ounce) package of apples & cinnamon instant oatmeal

-1/4 cup of vanilla yogurt

Prepare:

  1. Beat egg and milk in a 2-cup microwave-safe bowl until blended. Stir in oatmeal.
  2. Microwave on high until liquid is absorbed and the egg is set for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes; stir. Top with yogurt.

 

MUNCHIES

Hummus with Pitas and Celery Sticks

 

This is the perfect easy snack that can all be kept in your campus fridge!

You will need:

– Hummus

– Pita bread (pre-sliced)

– Celery Sticks

– Cottage cheese, Cheese Whiz, apricot cheese… or whatever cheese you fancy!

– Raisins and nuts are optional

Prepare: Hummus and pita

  1. Place the hummus in a bowl or leave it in the store bought container.
  2. Cut up or put a few slices of pre-cut pita bread on a plate.
  3. Dip in and enjoy!

Prepare: Celery Sticks

  1. Rinse store bought celery sticks in the sink.
  2. Cut them with a knife if they are not pre-cut.
  3. Place the cheese of your choice down the center of the celery stick with a spoon or your fingers depending on how messy you feel like getting!
  4. Lastly top off the cheese and celery stick with raisins or nuts.
  5. Note: If you do not want to use cheese you can use the hummus.

 

Mini Peanut Butter Rice Cakes

 

These yummy little poppers with give you energy and are great brain food during a study break!

You Will Need:

– Unsalted or salted rice cakes (You can buy minis or regular size)  

– Peanut butter or splurge and buy almond butter, hazelnut butter, or fruit and nut peanut butter

– Bananas

Prepare:

  1. Place the rice cake on a plate and using a knife spread the peanut butter over top.
  2. Cut the Banana into bite sized pieces and place the banana on top of the peanut butter and rice cake.
  3. Take a second rice cake and spread peanut butter over the surface.
  4. Put the second rice cake on to of the banana to make a sandwich.

 

DESSERT

Chocolate Fix

I am a sucker for chocolate, and there is no better way to fix your craving than to dip fresh fruit in it!

You will need:

– Any fruit of your choice!

– Banana

– Strawberry

– Pineapple

– Nutella or chocolate syrup

– If you have a microwave you can also buy blocks of chocolate and heat them up until the chocolate melts

Prepare:  

  1. Place the diced fruit on a plate.
  2. Drizzle the store bought Nutella or chocolate syrup over the fruit.
  3. Enjoy! Don’t forget to lick your fingers.

 

No-Bake Cookies!

You will need:

– Graham cracker squares, finely ground

– Handful of raisins (Optional, switch out for chocolate chips)

– 1 cup full of smooth natural peanut butter

– 2 tablespoons of honey

– A small bag of unsweetened coconut (Optional)

Prepare:

  1. Combine the ground whole-wheat graham crackers, raisins, peanut butter and honey in a small bowl.
  2. Roll into 16 cookies and press lightly in coconut.
