10 Reasons Why Fall at Carleton is the Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Fall at Carleton is full of wonderful and whimsical experiences just waiting to be embraced. Here are ten reasons why the Fall season should be greeted with joy at Carleton University:

  1. Midterms
Yes, you read that correctly. Now, bear with me while I explain my reasoning.  Exams are stressful for everyone regardless of academic standing or personal confidence, but that being said, this also makes it the perfect time to expand your friend group, or to approach that cutie in your class as a potential study buddy.  Late night study sessions are almost guaranteed to transition into early morning bonding time.
  2. Construction is on its way out
Fall is the gateway to Winter, which means that you only have to endure another few months of incessant droning caused by construction equipment before the snow falls.

  3. Sweater Weather
It’s finally cool enough for a thrifty sweater, so hit up those second hand shops and find your fall fashion look. Mainstream boutiques in Ottawa are also full of chic designs that can fit any style profile.
  1. Spices
If you love to cook, Fall is the season to gather up your friends and bake up a storm. What’s better, an abundance of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg are taking over in lattes, scones and meals.
  1. Kindness of others

Whether your allergies are acting up or the seasonal change has laid siege to your immune system, this is the time when you are more susceptible to illness. When you’re down and out, cuddled under the covers in residence or home and your true friends will make themselves known. They will be the ones who will bring you notes, send you funny texts, and keep you up to date with the latest gossip.

  1. Reading Week (October 28 – November 1)
A week off school – need I say more?

  2. Halloween
This night allows you to embrace your inner child by indulging in candy and dress up; what’s not to like? If the traditional trick or treating is no longer your thing, you can always volunteer with the Food Centre on campus for its annual Trick or Eat food drive.
  1. Thanksgiving
You can go home to old friends, reconnect with family, and eat to your hearts’ content. Enjoy meaningful conversations and self-reflection.

  2. Autumn Leaves
If you don’t already appreciate the beauty of our campus I will politely refrain from asking: “What the heck have you been doing these past few weeks?!”  As the colours of nature begin to change, the magnificent shades of scarlet, burnt orange and gold decorate the trees on campus and scatter the ground. I cannot be the only waiting for Mother Nature’s own version of the yellow brick road to adorn Carleton’s paths.
  1. Comfort
A feeling of stability has hopefully taken root inside of you by now. A new year has started for some of you, while a whole new phase of life has just begun for others.  Regardless of your situation, by now you should have a routine; whether you acknowledge it or not, Carleton has become a big part of your life – and it’s home.
