Campus Cutie: Gina Au

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Meet campus cutie Gina Au, a cheesy joke-extraordinaire.

Gina is a second year business major from San Francisco, an extremely clean roommate, a die-hard One Directioner, and she’s totally adorable. (She’s also single, boys!)

What’re you involved in on campus?

I’m on the social committee for AMA (American Marketing Association) and I’m pledge treasurer for Alpha Phi Omega, the service fraternity.

What’s your favorite study spot?

The library, fourth floor. Turn right, go straight, keep close to the left. That’s usually where I am, because it’s quiet. Because second floor is like: “let’s just chit-chat”. Third floor is for group projects, and fourth floor is like, “okay be quiet,” but 5th floor is: “DON’T EVEN BREATHE”.

What would be your go-to Escape off campus?

Go-to escape? I don’t escape. Well I have a car now, so Trader Joes. I also like to hike, but I haven’t been hiking here yet. I’d like to go though!

Thoughts on Zane leaving one direction?

As a One Directioner, I was quite sad when I heard the news. I exploded.

You exploded?

I exploded.

No, I didn’t really. I was disappointed and then I got even more mad when I heard he was going solo, but I’ve come to understand that he wants to find options other than being in a band that everyone loves, with a bazillion fans. But whatever, he doesn’t need that. He took solo so far! He shaved his head, he dropped One Direction and he dumped his fiancé. Zane took going solo to a different level.

If you could go anywhere where would you go and why?

I want to go to New York because I’m from San Francisco, so I love the city and I want to see what it’s like there, especially if I want to work there one day. And they never sleep, so they’re just like me. DID YOU KNOW THEY WILL DELIVER COOKIES TO YOU AT LIKE THREE AM??

What was your most Creative Halloween costume?

One time I went trick or treating in boy’s clothes; I was a boy. I took my brother’s clothes. I took his shoes and they were way too big…that was a mistake because I was like a 6, and he was a 10.

On a scale of 1-pumpkin spice, how excited are you for fall?

Zero? Pumpkin spice? What? Fall? What do you even do in the fall? What’s so fun about fall? It’s not like you can look cute, because you’re in school, and it’s hot here anyways, right? I think I get most excited for summer, because then I get to leave. Winter nothing happens, it’s not like it snows or anything.

Describe your dream guy.

For them to exist. I guess ambition, dedication, passion, kindness, loyalty-that’s my number one-but nothing specific. Just someone who has a goal in life.

What is your go-to accessory?

Rings. They’re just easy, although I do lose them quite often. OOH! Shout out if you see two silver rings left in the girl’s UU bathroom, I want them back. One’s a wave and one’s a purple heart or something. And dang those were expensive, like $30 and I’m not rich. So yeah, I’d like my rings back.

If you could go back and give one piece of advice to yourself in high school, what would it be?

Ooooh…take it easier. Don’t stress yourself out over something that’s not gonna matter in a few years. But then again, you should learn from your experiences in high school, and I feel like I learned a lot. I took everything really seriously, and I still do, but there were times I failed, and I still have times I fail in college, but I don’t take it as hard any more cause that’s part of it. So yeah, I’d like to tell myself it’s gonna be okay.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Rice. Well, hmm, not rice alone though. EGGS. I could eat eggs for days. And I need salt and pepper, for life. Actually, I don’t even need salt, just the pepper.

What’s your favorite knock knock joke?

I HAVE A TON OF THESE! Oh, knock knock.

Who’s there?

Little old lady.

Little old lady who?

I didn’t know you could yodel!

If you need me, I'll be on the beach, drinking my morning coffee.
