I spend a lot of time listening to music, and the other day I was thinking about an album to describe me and my best friend, hence the idea for this story came about. The albums I’ve chosen can match the feel and general vibe of the friendship, the lyrics might connect to the friendship or the style might symbolize the different types of friendship.
The Best Friend:
The person who is practically family; an extension of your own personality at this point. They don’t even need to knock on the front door. They treat your house as theirs and vice versa.
An Evening With Silk Sonic – Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak
Recommended songs: Fly As Me, Smokin Out The Window, 777
This funky tune is perfect to jam out to in the car, and will surely have you nodding your head to the beat. The intro alone to “Leave the Door Open” is guaranteed to have you and your bestie lip syncing as Bruno and Anderson. Overall, this album is pure fun.
Made in the A.M. – One Direction

This album is a commemoration of the boys in One Direction and their friendship, so including this album was a no-brainer. History is the ideal song to honor a best friend. This album is up-beat, yet filled with nostalgia that will surely have you and your best friend crying your hearts out.

The friend you can go months without seeing but pick up exactly where you left off when you see them again.
Dawn FM – The Weeknd

I would be remiss if I didn’t include the Beatles in this list. Their debut album changed music forever. It completely redefined “popular” music and the rock n’roll genre. This is a friendship filled with tension. Do you like them? Do they like you? It’s the friendship that produces just the right amount of butterflies in your stomach.

This album deals with very heavy topics, so be sure to look up trigger warnings before you listen to it. This album is one of the most modern, controversial albums to date, especially because of its blatant talk around depression, suicide, and darker themes. That being said, it has very beautifully twisted songs that are sure to make you reflect on your own life.
The Coffee Shop and Picnics Friend:
This is the friend you hang out with for those little outings to the park, beach, coffee shop, etc.
Dopamine – BØRNS

This album has a very unique and optimistic beat. It’s a great album to play for you and your friends’ little escapades. It’s described as a “breathy indie pop” album which is perfect for driving in the car with the windows rolled down while making your way to the Golden Gate Bridge or a bike ride through a sun-kissed Redwoods park.
The Childhood Best Friend:
This is the friend who you have literally known since diapers and throughout your time on the first-grade playground to the eighth-grade volleyball team.
Rumours – Fleetwood Mac

Rumours has that folky, mystic vibe that eases your mind and makes you want to lull around the house. It reminds me of sitting around a bonfire and chatting with friends about old stories, hence why this album is included in the “childhood” type of friendship.
