When senior communication major Amy Held isn’t hiding in the edit bay of the communication wing, you can probably find her walking around with a camera in hand taking pictures left and right and hanging out with her family and friends.
Held has been taking pictures since middle school and loves doing it whenever she can. Her skills were put into good use this past year being a photo editor for the Loquitur, Cabrini’s student-run newspaper.
“I loved being the photo editor,” Held said. “I was able to do what I loved and have [photos] published almost every week.”
During her time as photo editor, the Loquitur produced special issues with themes dedicated to certain issues in today’s world. When the time came for a special issue that was dedicated to educating people on human trafficking, Held jumped at the opportunity to create the front page.
“I knew I had an idea of what I thought would look great but I was so excited to make it happen with the help of my fellow editors,” Held said.
Held worked with her sister and fellow editors to create the perfect photo for the front page. The cover turned out so well that it was a College Media finalist for a Pinnacle Award.
“I was so proud of myself and more importantly proud that me and my fellow editors created something that got the word out there about an important issue,” Held said.
Even though Held has moved her eye-catching talents to focus more on video, she will always love photography.
“I think I will always be taking photos,” Held said. “No matter what I end up doing.”
Held is now interning as a video production assistant, exploring the video aspect of the communication field and plans on seeing where it can take her.
