5 Guilty Pleasures That Are Totally Acceptable To Indulge In Over Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cabrini chapter.

After months of cramming, late nights, dreaded group projects and dealing with your roommates’ dirty laundry taking up the entire floor of your dorm, it is winter break.  Finally, after these final weeks of needing that extra cup of coffee just to get through your economics homework, it is time to sit back, relax  and indulge in those guilty pleasures you didn’t get the chance to reward yourself with over the semester.

1. Romance Novels

Okay, so even though the guy who sits in front of you in Western Civ is incredibly charming when he offers to tutor you, he’ll never be Christian Grey.  Sometimes it’s fun (and a little torturous) to tease ourselves with the love lives we’ll never have.  Our schedules are so jam-packed with tediously studying textbooks that sometimes it’s nice to treat ourselves to a little fantasy.

2. Home-Cooked Meals

Fitting into your New Year’s Eve dress is obviously of utmost importance, but treating yourself to a second helping of mom’s homemade mac and cheese is also something that you won’t get while being away at school.  Indulge in the extra calories this break and just hit the elliptical extra hard when class is back in session.

3. Girls Night Out

We all have had those nights during the semester where we just want to stay in and enjoy the company of our fuzzy socks and messy buns.  However, over break, let go. Go out with your high school friends, even if it is just to catch up. Sometimes hearing all the amazing things they are accomplishing is the best type of motivation for the spring semester.

4. Binge-Watch Netflix

We get down on ourselves all semester for watching TV when we know we have other things to do, but over break, don’t feel ashamed spending all day watching Season 3 of Orange is the New Black.  You may even learn something for your upcoming criminal justice course!

5. Family Time

So, even though they may get on your nerves and don’t understand your nap schedule, nothing beats spending time with family members.  Find out how their year is going.  Those moments you spend at home with them will mean more than you will ever know.

School is stressful.  Take the time for yourself to rejuvenate over break.  A healthy mind needs some relaxation.  Sleep in, eat great food and enjoy your loved ones this holiday!
