If you haven’t heard of Kacey Musgraves, I suggest you go on your Spotify or Apple Music and download Golden Hour RIGHT NOW.

There isn’t a bad song on that album, and I can promise you won’t regret it. I know technically she’s a country music star, and I’m not the biggest fan of country music, but this girl truly is something else. I feel as though I can relate to the entire album but there’s one song that really resonates with me. It’s called “Happy and Sad”.

When things are feeling just a little too good do you ever just get antsy, waiting on something bad to come and ruin it? I do all the time. That’s what “Spacey Kacey” (lovely nickname) is talking about in this track. While I think specifically, she may have been singing about a relationship; I think this can really apply to everyday life. There are just times where life is feeling too good, and everything is going right, and I think “alright what’s gonna happen” or “when’s the rain coming”. It really puts this negative damper on things. I’m not quite sure where it stems from if it’s just anxiety playing tricks, but when I heard this song, I was just like… she gets it. Emotions are such strange things. It’s crazy that you can feel so many things all at once. The lyric “You got me smillin’ with tears in my eyes” just reminds me of rain on a sunny day and how beautiful and bizarre it can be to witness. Things can be so serene yet so hectic at the same time. Spacey Kacey expressed this emotion so well; now all we need is a word for happy and sad.

Hi I'm Autumn, I'm from Lancaster South Carolina not too far from Charleston.I'm a freshman this year at CofC. My major is leaning towards Computing in the Arts. I enjoy laughing, A LOT, I also enjoy attempting to make others laugh. I'm a bit of an optimist so I try to take that and use it to make life a little better each day.
