Being a freshman and getting used to college life is hard. One thing that can really help is making your dorm room feel as much like home as possible. Here are some tips for decorating your new space!

Add a Plant

Buy a plant buddy at your local garden store, like Lowes, Home Depot, or a local boutique like Francesca’s! Yes, they can even be artificial and still really cute. It adds personality and a sense of home to a place!

Add a Vanity Area

If you have an empty space in your dorm, you can use it as a vanity area to put on makeup. I use my trunk as a table, where I keep my makeup mirror (from Bed Bath & Beyond) and a little stool (also from Bed Bath & Beyond) as well. It makes for a fun little space to put on makeup and also maximizes space in your tiny room!

Add Fairy Lights

If you have an empty wall that you don’t know what to do with, get some fairy lights! I got them at Target and they were very inexpensive. With the clips, I hung up some pictures of things that are very dear to my heart, including my family, my friends, and beautiful places I’ve been. It definitely makes me feel grateful that they have instilled strength in me, which has led me to the success that I have today.

Add a Shoe Holder

Use the door from a closet or wardrobe to hang up your shoes — it helps me feel organized and doesn’t take up too much space. I got the on-door shoe holder from Bed Bath & Beyond! I even ended up cutting the bottom of it so it could not drag on the floor.

Add Command Strips

These things really work so well! I especially use the hooks to hang up masks and keys. Put a hook with a command strip on the wall near the door, and I promise you will never forget your keys again!

Add Fluffy Pillows

Fluffy pillows give personality to a room, too!! You can get the cutest pillows at Target, Marshalls, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Walmart! I got a sparkly one from Marshalls and a bohemian-themed-one from Target. They are so huggable and super cute!

Add a Keurig Cup Holder

Along with a Keurig Mini, you can get Keurig cup holders at Walmart. I found an adorable one and it was super inexpensive, but added so much personality to my dorm! I also keep it in one spot, which helps me have a clearer mind!

Add a Magnet

If you have something to put magnets on, such as a fridge, do it! Look for some cute knickknack stores in your college town and be sure to pick up a few. There are some with inspirational phrases and some with letters for your initials! I got mine at AC Moore (a craft store) and at Francesca’s!
