3 Tips to Prepare for Springtime in the Holy City

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

With the weather in Charleston becoming increasingly warmer and the sunny days finally lasting longer, it’s time to soak in all that the spring season has to offer. Before you begin sacrificing class time for beach time, take a look below for three tips on how to make the most of this beautiful time in Charleston.

Spice up your Wardrobe

Perhaps the best way to prepare for springtime is to update your closet! In terms of chic fashion trends, be sure that you possess the following pieces: a crisp white button-up, splashes of the color mint, a classic big beach hat, something floral, suitable sun protection, and bright flats.

Get Active

No, I don’t mean you have to start exercising, unless of course you want to. Rather, to prepare for spring, get ready to start being outside more! With warmer weather comes the ability to enjoy Charleston at its finest and fullest. Take time to catch a wave at Folly, simultaneously get a tan and take a nap at Marion Square, doll up for one of the many events Charleston has to offer, dance to local music festivals like the Spring Jam Music Fest, enjoy Sunday brunch outside, explore local plantations, and relish this great pre-so-humid-you-feel-like-you-might-faint warm weather! Trust me, it’ll be here before you know it.

Create the Perfect Playlist

A springtime music playlist will keep your spirits up and motivate you to finish that project earlier so that you can go enjoy the beautiful weather! Every person has their own unique music taste, so the suggestions listed here might not appeal to you, but don’t be afraid to explore all types of genres – you’ll never know what you might like. Now, for the recommendations:

·       Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride from the Lilo & Stitch soundtrack

·       The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson

·       Always Spring by I’m From Barcelona

·       Pocketful of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield

·       Happy by Pharell Williams

·       Soulflight by the Revitalists

·       Forever Like That by Ben Rector

College of Charleston junior Angel Mathis is pursuing a BA in Communication with a double minor in Creative Writing and Tourism Management. While still uncertain of her career path, Angel knows that the field of Communication is where she is meant to be. Her love of words is evident in her writings and conversations. Because she knows the power, the beauty, and the pain words carry, she speaks and writes with care, and hopes that one day a string of words she threads together positively influences someone's life. Until then, she'll continue to bake, travel, and laugh her days away.
