COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of many. Relationships have changed with people isolating themselves to remain safe, which caused many to feel alone during these times. Virtual reality platforms have allowed for people to connect to others in the world just like them. Here, I have listed virtual games where you can explore friendships, relationships, entrepreneurship, and more!

SECOND LIFE

Second Life is a platform which was created in 2003. Those who use Second Life look for different types of relationships, with other 900,000 users who log in. Businesses can come from this game – ranging from: YouTube video content, creating custom content for users to buy in the game, roleplay, and so much more. Second Life has their own currency named Lindens which can be exchanged for U.S. dollars and other currencies. This game can get expensive if you invest a lot of time and effort into your avatar’s life, but if you can limit yourself the possibilities can still be endless!

IMVU

IMVU is another virtual platform which was created in 2004. Mirroring Second Life, IMVU was different because their currency – credits – could not be exchanged into money until the creation of VCOIN. This platform is a social networking site, but the graphics and gameplay are different from SecondLife. Entrepreneurship opportunities are also available on this game by: streaming gameplay on YouTube, creating things for others in the ‘store’, and more!

THE SIMS

Although The Sims does not allow you to talk to others ‘in world’, this is still a gaming platform that gives you the opportunity to make friends and make money. Streaming gameplay on Twitch or YouTube, creating CC (custom content), and finding players on Twitter are just some of the ways this game can be interactive. The Sims allows you to create avatars, and live different lives through them. This platform is totally different from the previous ones, but is still one you should try. The base game costs around $50 and if you want additional gameplay there are expansion packs to purchase. I suggest buying the base game and downloading CC.

There are other virtual platforms but these are the three main ones that I use. There is no need to splurge all your coins into these games, especially the first two which can be played for free. A piece of advice I would give is just to be careful with your personal information, don’t overshare about your life with people you don’t trust, and trust your gut. Enjoy gaming!
