5 Powerful Lessons From Business Leaders

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buffalo chapter.

1. Follow your passion

Success depends on passion. By being passionate, you will dedicate more of your time and energy to what matters most. Passion is one of the most crucial ingredients for each one of us to possess. Our passions drive us forward and fuel hard work, creativity, and determination to reach our goals and attain accomplishments. In addition, when you enjoy what you are doing, it won’t feel like work, and you will feel more invested.

2. Never give up, and success will follow

For this example, I am going to use one of my favorite singers, Rihanna. Not only is she an extremely talented singer, but she heightened her success by creating Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty. These business endeavors boosted her wealth and turned her into a billionaire (#bossgirl). Once a little girl from Barbados and now a worldwide superstar and successful businesswoman. Rihanna is a great example of why we should never give up, and with hard work and determination, success will follow.

3. Expect failure

It is human nature to be afraid of failure. I know I constantly fear failure when it comes to college or my future career. However, I have learned to embrace all my failures and learn from them, instead of letting them break me. Failure is not the end of everything but the beginning of a new chance. When you fall, you have to pick yourself back up. The past is the past and cannot be changed. However, you are in control of your future and can learn from your past mistakes. By being aware that you will encounter failure along your journey, you will be better off. Failure is just another lesson that will put you right back on the path towards success.

4. Surround yourself with good people

Our successes and achievements come from who we surround ourselves with. You should surround yourself with people who uplift you and support you in the good and bad times. The people you associate with influence your moods and how you view the world. When you are around positive people, you will be more likely to adopt empowering beliefs and feel inspired. It may take time, but take a close look around you and evaluate all your relationships. At the end of the day, you matter most, so surround yourself with those who appreciate and empower you.

5. Get out of your comfort zone

This has always been a personal struggle of mine. I am currently a senior at college and am just learning to step out of my comfort zone. I used to (and still kind of do) struggle with social anxiety. In the past, just ordering my food was a terrifying task for me to accomplish. However, after persistence and determination, I have learned to face my fear head-on. It took me a long time, but I am proud of how far I have come. I am more confident in who I am and believe in myself more. I know when the anxiety kicks in, to pause, take a couple of deep breaths, and relax. Honestly, practice makes perfect, and the more you practice, the easier it becomes. Like driving, the more you practice, the better driver you become. Just know it is never too late to begin the process of getting out of your comfort zone.
