HC: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Lakwame: My biggest inspiration would have to my dad who passed away in the spring of ’09. He was a lively man from the west indies with a big heart and always saw opportunity even in the most grim times of his life. Death (especially his) has been so prominent in my life that it has definitely taught me how to enjoy my life and play the hand that i was dealt with no matter what comes my way because at ANY given moment it could be taken away. My dad’s death inspires me to LIVE and understand that everyone i meet and come in contact with has a story and goals that they want to fulfill.

HC: What are some things you’ve done or organizations you are a part of on campus and what have you learned from them?

Lakwame: I joined the Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of leadership and success as a senior during my undergrad. I also worked as an EOP student mentor (2011), EOP summer Orientation leader (summer 2010), and worked in residence life as an office assistant of Perry Hall for my entire junior year. I am currently employed on campus over in chase hall as one of three Coordinators for the University Police Student Assistant Program (UPSA) and I am apart of the fraternal brotherhood Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated which i served as the public relations chair in 2011. From all of these experiences I learned to be more patient as well as develop a passion for motivating others around me.

HC: Why did you come to buff state?

Lakwame: I came to Buffalo State originally because I knew that if i stayed home i would do nothing but work a dead end 9-5 and get myself into trouble so instead I followed my high school guidance counselor’s foot steps and came up to Buffalo which was probably one of the greatest decisions of my life.

HC: Whate sre the best and worst experiences you’ve had while attending buff state?

Lakwame: My best experience here at Buffalo State was meeting so many good people and even some that i can honestly say will be my life long friends. My worst experience i would have to say is living on campus, i wish i could have moved off sooner. It sucks having to be monitored when you already feel like your’e old enough to do things on your own but i completely understand that it needs to be done.

HC: How would you describe your experience here at buff state?

Lakwame: My experience here has been nothing short of amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world, I love Buff State and i plan to give back as much as i can in any way that i can.

HC: What do you hope to do when you graduate?

Lakwame: I hope to go on and become an officer of the law either in Maryland, Virginia, or Texas and after a few years of doing patrol i would like to work as a detective in the homicide unit. I also plan to open up a restaurant in Lower manhattan but thats after i retire.

HC: What is your biggest motivation to continue on as a student here at buff state?

Lakwame: My biggest motivation to continue as a student is my mom, her and I compete for degrees and right now we both have a bachelors and are both currently enrolled in our masters programs due to graduate at the same time. So that should be cool, she’s my motivation and hopefully i’m hers because school is no joke.

HC: What advice do you have for girls here at buff state?

Lakwame: My advice to girls at Buffalo State is to be more involved on your campus; join campus clubs and see where you fit in while at the same time don’t let others ruin you because everyone isn’t your friend. People are attracted to those who are ambitious and about their education, you are students first so be the best YOU that YOU can be. God Bless

All of us here at Her Campus Buff State would like to thank Lakwame for taking the time to participate in Her Campus, and we wish him luck on all his future endeavours!
