Why You Should Actually Vote: Presidential Election 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Influence.

The influence our generation has on potential political results is key to deciding who our future leaders are. Our participation has the potential to instill the habit of voting into generations to come, working towards a more aware America.

Effect.

You will have to live with the results of this election. Depending on others to make decisions for you, but voting for who they believe would run America the best, is not the route to take.

Knowledge.

While we should not necessarily believe we are the smartest generation to exist (as we have seen many skilled predecessors), it is true that we are equipped with a vast amount of resources to gain more knowledge. Due to this fact, it is important to develop ideas on what you perceive as most important, and see which candidates’ beliefs are closest to yours.

Appreciation.

Acknowledging our ability to vote and utilizing that opportunity is important. Many other countries around the world do not honor the votes of their people. As we live in a privileged society in many ways, it is your responsibility to make your opinion matter, due to the fact that you are allowed to have an opinion at all.

For many college students, next year will be the first time they have been eligible to vote in a presidential election. Utilize this opportunity and educate yourself so you can vote for the candidate YOU decide would best lead America!
