UNREAL Candy: What’s the Deal?

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

So, if you were one of the lucky few mobbed by us in the GSU on Halloween, you are well acquainted with UNREAL Candy. If not, you might have seen it in CVS on your trip down the candy aisle last night….I mean wait what? That never happened; first rule of fight club. Really, though, if you don’t know about UNREAL, you will soon because it’s popping up everywhere.

Founded by a BU alum, UNREAL is on a mission to unjunk candy and make it a healthy, great tasting alternative to other name brand sweets. Their candies have no corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, synthetic colors or genetically modifed ingredients. Instead, they use double the cacao, more peanuts, real milk, cane sugar, and organic palm fruit oil. I know it’s hard to believe that there is a candy out there with no artificial ingredients that still tastes great, but we also thought that Lindsay Lohan was one of the most promising actresses of our generation and would die after a  with her title of “America’s Sweetheart” intact. And it really does tastes the same, and knowing that it’s unjunked makes it better. You know how wearing lingerie just makes you feel stronger and more powerful, even if you’re not planning on any sexytime? Eating food that you know is all-natural just automatically makes it taste even better. UNREAL has, on average, 30% less sugar, 60% more fiber and 250% more protein than the leading competitors. With each bar just under 200 calories, it’s a perfect midday snack or dessert that you don’t have to feel guilty about. And although healthier candy is usually only found in health food stores, UNREAL is in CVS, Staples, Ralph’s and other big retailers at the same price as other candies.

They’ve taken five different candy bars (Snickers, Milky Way, M&Ms, Peanut M&Ms and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups), and unjunked them to make them healthier. In the days leading up to our Halloween giveaway, I had 9 large boxes of candy sitting in my living room. And naturally, my roommates were all up on that. Their personal favorites were the Snickers and M&Ms, or as one roommate called them “Mmm.” Yes, that actually happened; I can’t make that up, no matter how hard I tried. My personal favorite are the Peanut Butter Cups; they’re not too sweet and the peanut butter is so rich and dense. My mom sent me a Halloween package full of Reese’s, and I honestly couldn’t eat them because they were too sweet for me.

And to the people who refused free UNREAL candy in the GSU on Halloween:
1. Who are you?
2. Why are you the way that you are?
3. Your loss, and next time you see us giving out free UNREAL candy (which will be soon), do yourself a favor and take it.

Everyone who tries it loves it, and we even had some people come back and grab more.
