Should you Follow in Justin Bieber’s Footsteps?: How and Where to Cut Your Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Justin Bieber has been prevalent in the news lately, even more so than usual. His new movie came out, along with his interview in Rolling Stone, and swarms of tweens were outraged and heartbroken when he lost at the Grammys. However, the most important news item of all came last week with a twitter picture, revealing the unthinkable: Justin Bieber cut his trademark lustrous mane.

Cutting one’s hair is rarely something to take lightly. From college students to singing sensations, its something to consider with great care. Most people feel a strong attachment to their hair. It’s a big part of how we look and present ourselves. The thought of changing such an important part of our appearance can be frightening. Another part of what’s so intimidating about a haircut is that it’s semi-permanent. There are extensions, but they can be expensive, painful, and they can only do so much to repair a haircut gone wrong.

While some can be hesitant to go under the knife (or scissors or razor), getting a haircut can also be really exciting. Not all haircuts have to be drastic, but sometimes it can be nice to have a change. For Bieber, a haircut changed him from a boy with a floppy bowl cut into a young man with a sleek, more mature do.

Haircuts can be transformative, and not only for one’s physical appearance, but a person’s outlook. There are few greater feelings better than of walking out of a salon with a fresh new cut. It’s simple, but when your hair looks great, it’s pretty easy to feel great too.
If you’re feeling like you need a hair makeover, here are some places to give a try.

  1. Dellaria – Most BU students are familiar with this salon because of its convenient Comm ave. location. What most people don’t know is that on Mondays, you can get your hair cut by a student for $15. 625 Commonwealth Ave, 617-262-8750
  2. Studio For Hair. This is another great salon that’s close to campus. It’s been featured in Allure, Instyle, and Boston Magazine as one of the best and most affordable places to get your hair done in Boston.  464 Commonwealth Ave. 617-262-2029
  3. Leeba Salon. For all you West girls looking for a new do, this is the place for you. Hair cuts for women start at $35 so you’ll have money left over to get a fro-yo next door. Talk about a sweet deal.  1024 Commonwealth Ave. 617-566-6969
