Twitter (noun): the only place where it’s acceptable to follow someone you admire. It’s our own semi-private outlet where we can feel free to give the world narcissistic updates on the daily. We can complain about the people sitting around us without being labeled as whiny.
But the icing on the cake is that we can see what celebrities are up to without actually peering into their living room and getting slapped with a restraining order.
I’m one of those born again Twitter veterans who made their account back in 2009 and got bored with it, until the whole craze really took off again in 2011. Therefore, I have racked up quite a few followees over the years whom I don’t remember my reasons for following at the time.
Looking over my “following” list was a lot like resurrecting my old MySpace: painful and cringe-worthy. However, I can’t bring myself to unfollow some of these celebrities/parody accounts that somehow make my Twitter feed a brighter place. Here are a few gems from the past that you should follow immediately:
1) Ryan Seacrest. I can’t. Everyone has those days where they just need to know what’s happening on American Idol and Ryan’s Twitter is the gateway. I was also grateful to be a follower during the whole Sacha-Baron-Cohen-throwing-Kim-Jong-Il’s-ashes-in-Ryan’s-face incident at this year’s Oscars.
2) Scott Disick. Kourtney Kardashian’s beau is an endless outpouring of entertainment with his snarky one-liners on the air and fortunately his tweets don’t disappoint. In 140 characters or less, Scott Disick manages to insult his fans as well as make us wonder whether he’s just a clown hired by the Kardashian clan.
3) Perez Hilton. Please, Perez, tweet one more time about how much you love Madonna. But without him on my feed, I would be much less informed about the private lives of celebrities. You win some, you lose some.
4) Texts From Last Night. These might be so three years ago, but I will never stop laughing at these unfortunate drunk texts. I remember when you couldn’t log onto Facebook without seeing a million statuses quoting TFLN. They were the memes of 2009.
5) Lord Voldemort. Way too hilarious not to follow. He somehow manages to relate events in the news to Harry Potter, so that you can stay informed and a Harry Potter nerd all at the same time.
6) Miley Cyrus.I was a witness to her infamous Twitter-deleting drama, and have been a loyal follower ever since. Miley seems to have matured over the years and I quite enjoy her inspirational quotes from the likes of the Buddha and the way she manages to reply to so many of her fans. Definitely a keeper.
