How to Throw the Ultimate Arm Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

As much as I love a good statement necklace, my favorite way to accessorize these days is with some serious arm candy, or what the Man Repeller notoriously termed an “arm party.” But you don’t have to be a celebrity blogger to rock this trend. Here’s how to planning the perfect jewelry soirée:

1. Shop at unexpected places.

Don’t limit yourself to jewelry and clothing stores to buy great bracelets. Some of my favorite pieces have come from street vendors, vintage shops and farmers’ markets. An amazing cuff might even be hiding in your mom’s closet (just make sure she doesn’t still wear it!).

2. Start big.

First, choose a base piece to sets the tone for the whole look. Start the party with a wide cuff that has an interesting texture, like snakeskin for a sophisticated outfit or studded leather for something edgier. You could also go with a chunkier jeweled bracelet for some sparkle.

3. Mix gold and silver.

Whoever said to separate metals didn’t know what she was talking about. Welcome integration with rose gold and pewter pieces in different textures. Add another neutral bracelet — think black or tan — to tone down the contrast.

4. Keep it diverse and balanced.

The key to the perfect arm party is an eclectic mix of guests. Choose varying tones, textures, shapes and finishes to get a unique composition. I always place pieces with different widths next to each other. Juxtapose a sweet crystal band with a tougher skull bracelet, or break up metal-on-metal combinations with a leather wrap-around piece.

5. Have a hero piece.

Great parties have to have a great host. One of your bracelets should steal the show and make the entire stack work. The hero piece (which isn’t necessarily the biggest) could be your watch, but it doesn’t have to be. Just make sure your arrangement has something special and striking that makes your party unforgettable!
