I firmly believe that Spotify is the absolute best app for streaming music. Spotify has helped me discover some of my favorite artists and has provided me with incredible concert opportunities. Here is how to get the most out of this glorious app and diversify your playlists!

Listen to the Discover Weekly Playlist

Every week Spotify generates a new playlist for each individual listener. This playlist is based on your frequent listening patterns. It analyzes your music history and provides an epic playlist of similar music or what others who listen to your music are also listening to. I use this feature frequently and it has helped me discover tons of new songs/bands that I otherwise had not heard of. This is a great way for anyone to find some new music from their usual.

Use the Play Radio Feature

Whether it is a specific song or artist, there is an option which allows you to “go to radio.” This feature will allow you to shuffle songs by bands similar to an artist you like, or songs similar to a specific song you enjoy. It can be found by clicking the three dots that appear on the page, alongside the add to playlist or add to queue option. This is my favorite feature to take advantage of. It is just another tool Spotify provides to diversify or add onto your music library.

Follow your friends

Yes, you can follow your friends on Spotify! A person’s music habits can tell a lot about who they are. For some, music is extremely important. So exploring the music your friends listen to can give you better incite on who they are and may give you more opportunities to jam out to songs together. Also, who doesn’t love the adrenaline rush of a new follower?!

Use the Recommended Concerts feature

On the search page, under browse all, there is a tab that says “concerts” which will display to you upcoming shows near you that Spotify recommends based on your listening habits. I am a frequent checker of the concerts page. There is nothing that compares to seeing an artist live and Spotify helps by giving you a better opportunity to do this. Sometimes concerts are hard to hear about, but with this feature you never have to worry about missing out on your favorite bands. Spotify also tells you the location of the show and provides you with a link to buy tickets.

I hope you take advantage of these tools. Music can become more than just a personal preference and instead become an interconnected community through Spotify. Don’t be afraid to expand your horizons. Your new favorite band may just be waiting for you to discover them!
