On Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, Boston University’s Alianza Latina club hosted one of its major events of the semester, Fuego — a dance that takes place every fall semester. Alianza Latina (AL) is the largest Latinx club at BU.

Fuego was the main conversation starter for AL. Everyone would ask, “Are you going to Fuego?” If you didn’t go to Fuego, you were missing out. But, that’s okay — I’m here to fill you in on that night.

Fuego was a night full of excitement. All students — BU or non BU students — were able to attend. Students were able to add songs to a shared Spotify playlist that was played throughout the night. From Bad Bunny and Rosalía to the OG Selena and classic bachata songs, everyone’s energy was at a high. The night was sort of similar to late-night Latinx parties: like quinceañeras or birthday parties. The familiarity made the night all comforting and memorable.

It was a lively night full of Latinx roots and everyone embracing one another. It was truly an inclusive night of diversity for the Latinx community. At a PWI, it’s not easy to fully connect with your ethnic roots. But, thanks to AL, Fuego was able to partially bridge that gap. Dancing to songs that we grew up listening to and dancing to at parties brought a piece of home to BU that night.

AL usually hosts two major dances throughout the academic year — Fuego in the fall semester and Explosión in the spring semester. Both dances take place in the evening in the Metcalf Ballroom on the second floor of the GSU. Make a note of Explosión next semester! More details to come. You for sure do not want to miss this night of memories and fun.

AL meets every Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm at the GSU backcourt. Be sure to follow their instagram @alianzalatinabu to keep up with more cool events they have in store for the year.

A big shoutout to AL for making this happen at BU, and allowing students to have the opportunity to express themselves. I hope to see more people at Explosión!
