Comments on Fashion, as Told by Older Generations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Everyone knows trends come and go, but it’s somehow still difficult for people, especially older people, to always wrap their heads around new styles. And if they can’t wrap their head around it, they tend to speak up. Here are some amusing comments that have been made about our clothing choices.

On ripped jeans…

“Did you pay extra money for less jeans?”

“Did you trip in the parking lot?” -Marci

“Do I need to give you money to go back and buy the rest of your pants?”

“Those things with all those holes in them.”-Gretchen

“It looks like you got mauled by a bear and dragged behind a pickup truck.” -Laura

On crop tops…

“I think you forgot half of your shirt back in the closet.” -Hannah

“That’s a really small shirt.”

“Did it shrink in the wash?”

On colorful/dark lipsticks…

“Did you forget your lipstick and use a crayon instead?” -Hannah

“Are you one of those goth people?” -Elizabeth

On black nail polish…

“Are you goth now?”

On colorful hair…

“Why?”

“Is this permanent?” -Elizabeth

“Your hair is just so…Different. So…unique” -Elizabeth
