All The Months of College, Ranked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

After being in college for a year, I noticed a big discrepancy between the various months we’re in school and the atmosphere around campus in general, so I thought I’d give each month school is in session a formal ranking. If you go to college in the Southern Hemisphere, this might look pretty weird…maybe even the opposite of your ranking?

Note: I left out January and May— most of each month is spent on break, so it was hard to rank them against the others.

April

There’s nothing quite like going outside during the first few warm days and seeing the world come alive again. Between knowing summer is near (having one month of school left is a lot less daunting than eight) and the three-day Marmon weekend (at least at BU), it’s a pretty happy month.

December

No month has more fun seasonal things to do, from ice skating to Christmas tree lightings. Last year I even went to a holiday-themed winter outdoor market. I’m only not giving this one the first place spot because of finals. Even though finals are near, so is break, so the atmosphere is cheery.

September

Classes aren’t too bad yet, and it’s exciting to go back to your normal college routine again. This month, I finally realized that September has, hands down, the best weather of all these months (even though I’m from Boston, I had some delusions about May?) so you can fit in a few final summery things.

October

The pre-Halloween atmosphere rivals only that of the Christmas one, and fall is in full force. Three-days-weekends and fall breaks almost make up for midterms, and it ends with a bang on Halloweekend.

March

Two words: spring break. Otherwise…maybe not the best month, simply because it’s still so cold and everyone is over it.

November

Thanksgiving break is nice, but by this point, classes have been going on for a while with no end in sight (and it’s at the end of the month). Temperatures and relaxation levels quickly drop. What seemed fun in October becomes harder to endure in November.

February

Since it’s the beginning of the semester, most of your projects and tests and papers still await you, and the cold can make it unbearable to do anything fun…or even walk to your next class. Who wants to do anything in February?

Even if your list looks very different from mine, it’s interesting to compare. I hope you enjoy your year, no matter what month it may be!
