Interview with Rhea Manglani

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryn Mawr chapter.

By February, the students of Bryn Mawr College elect their SGA president for the remainder of the year, and the next. With the approval and reaffirmation of the SGA Constitution, the new executive board begin their roles at the conclusion of the Spring Plenary. The SGA president has myriad jobs and duties, but most importantly, the president is a fellow student. Here is a look at our newest SGA president, Rhea Manglani `17:

What made you come to Bryn Mawr?

God, this is such a long story so there’s the abridged version: I was interested in Bryn Mawr when I was in high school, but my parents really pushed me to stay in-state. A quarter into my time a co-ed state school and many miserable phone calls to my friend at Scripps college later, I made the choice to applying to a couple liberal arts colleges. My state school was great, but had a much stronger emphasis on STEM and I really wasn’t finding my way there. Bryn Mawr’s emphasis on community and all the great things I’d heard about academic life drew me here and when the school offered me the most transfer credits out of my other choices, I was set.

What is your favorite thing about Bryn Mawr?

Uncommon Grounds hahaha. Shout out to everyone who has been on a shift with me!

What are you most looking forward to as SGA president?

Seeing what positive change I can do or at least set the framework for.

What are you most afraid of being SGA president?

Not listening and ultimately being an ineffectual student leader.

Do all SGA presidents need to have short hair (Charlie, Syona, you)?

Ahaha no. I cut my hair because I bleached it again over winter break and it was starting to fall out. Bleached hair is really high maintenance and annoying to deal with.

What do you want to check off your bucket list?

Get featured on the website for BMC. Fall in love in New York during the winter time for life (I know it’s oddly specific). These sound so superficial, but I’m just really bad with bucket lists. I get scared of the idea of not finishing one so I don’t really keep any.

What is a secret you have never told anyone?

I’ve told a couple of people this, but in high school, me and like these 5 guys from my film class made a movie about a cult for the Insane Clown Posse. It’s on Youtube somewhere and it’s probably one of the most embarrassing things about me floating on the internet.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Zayn Malik.

Who was your favorite Power Ranger?

Never had one. Think I liked whoever was the Pink one as a kid because she was a girl and yellow was a gross color. Sometimes the blue one is a girl and then she’d be my favorite.

How many donuts are you capable of eating in one sitting?

Probably two just because I’d feel gross if I ate more than two.

How hard do you have to fight the urge to run when you hear the ice cream truck coming?

Most of my life I lived on a hill so the ice cream truck guy never came around so I never got into the habit of running after ice cream trucks.

Where is the furthest place you have traveled?

Probably India or somewhere in Southeast Asia. I’d have to look this up…

You can always find Rhea during SGA meetings, Sunday nights in the Campus Center. If you have any ideas or want to be a part of SGA, email the exec board or show up to a meeting! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come.
