They’ve been by your side for years now, you tell them anything and everything, and now you’re living hours apart.  Of course, it’s never easy to leave a piece of your heart behind when you go away to college, but that’s how life works. We grow up and leave home in order to create our own lives. It doesn’t mean you have to forget them. Really, how could you anyway? They’re definitely unforgettable.

Be sure to make one another a priority. Make sure you call each other- we mean it. Even though they are miles away, you can still keep her in the loop on every little moment. You’ll need someone to vent to, cry to, and discuss the cute guy you met last weekend. Support them because you both know it can get tough going through this new experience without one another. Make sure they knows you’re there for them through everything, even though you can’t hold their hand. Be honest with each other through it all. Just because you’re apart doesn’t mean you have to hold anything back. Your living situations may have changed but your friendship has not.

It may hurt to be apart at first. You’ve had one another for so long now. You have laughed and cried together, through awkward puberty, first kisses, heartbreaks, and the scary moments. You aren’t losing her though. Just think, you now have something great to look forward to when you head home for break: your best friend. You can curl up together with Christmas cookies, squeal over all of your new experiences and stories, and it will all feel the same to you.

Being apart will make your friendship that much stronger. Remember that while the boys may come and go, your best friend will always be there. Let’s be real: they’re the love of your life.
