To start the spring semester, Her Campus Bryant wanted to give our readers a brief introduction to Greek life on campus.

We decided to talk with the eight new Greek life presidents to learn more about their involvement on campus and what’s next for their chapter.

Here is our interview with the president of the fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon, Nicholas Henkin.

HC: Why did you decide to go Greek?

NH: Coming into college I knew I wanted to be part of some organization, but I was not sure what. When I met the brothers of Delta Kappa Epsilon, I knew that the brotherhood was something I wanted to be a part of.

As soon as I started hanging out with the brothers, it was evident that they were a very tight-knit unit. The brothers were always doing something together and when you hung out with them there was never a dull moment. I knew that joining DKE would not only allow me to form friendships while in college, but it would allow me to form connections that would last a lifetime.

HC: Why did you decide to run for president?

NH: I ran for president because I wanted to leave a lasting impact on the fraternity. The organization has given me a lot and I wanted to give back to the community. There are a few things that I have noticed in recent years that I believe can be improved even further in the fraternity, and I wanted to take the initiative to implement these changes and set up the fraternity for further growth and sustainability.

HC: What is your favorite thing about your sorority or fraternity?

NH: My favorite thing about Delta Kappa Epsilon is how close we all are. We are an extremely tight-knit group of guys who can always count on each other. Every single one of our brothers provides something towards the fraternity in their own way. Because we are smaller it causes the brothers to become really close to each other and form long-lasting relationships. The alumni are always staying in touch and helping out the actives in any way possible.

HC: What is your favorite memory from being a part of your fraternity?

NH: My favorite memory being part of Delta Kappa Epsilon is our golf tournament. This is a great event we started two years ago where the proceeds benefit Autism Speaks. This event allows all of our current brothers, alumni, friends, and family to come together for a great day of golf for a great cause. This day always ends up being extremely fun. It is a great time to reconnect with the alumni and the community while raising a substantial amount of money for Autism Speaks.

HC: What is one thing you are excited about that’s happening in your organization this semester?

NH: One of our biggest philanthropy events this semester is in memory of one of our brothers who unexpectedly passed away last year. The event is held off-campus at Corner Pockets Bar and Grill as this was one of his favorite places. The profits from this event go towards a scholarship in his name.

At this time we do not have a specific date for the event but it usually occurs shortly after spring break.
