The Low-Down on Kegel Balls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Smart Balls? Kegel balls? Ben Wa Balls? What are they? Well they are these balls that come in different materials, sometimes silicone, sometimes metal, and they vary and weight and size as well. “But I heard that these are sex toys? Aren’t those sex toys?” These balls indeed can be used to give pleasure to oneself, but is also used to do kegel exercises. What are kegel exercises? To whoever may not know, they are exercises that strengthen your pelvic muscles.

When you want to use them, our advice is to get the ones attached by a string to keep them together-this also makes easy removal!  If you aren’t familiar with them, place them inside your vagina and practice tightening your muscles!  To strengthen your muscles even more, tugging a little on the strand for resistance is great exercise. The point is to keep them inside, so yes, with your muscles you can walk around with them all day if you wanted to…not that we entirely recommend this!

A common misconception is these are strictly for female pleasure.  If you’ve read 50 Shades of Grey then this would be your belief.  The kegel balls were incorporated into Anastasia’s life with Christian and did bring her muchhhh pleasure. With the “smart balls” or “Ben Wa Balls” strengthening your pelvic floor muscles, this can improve your sex life with your partner. They can give you much more dramatic and powerful climaxes!

One of the connotations that follow “sex toys” is they are for “lonely” people.  Hell no! If you ever felt like you wanted to spice things up in the bedroom, try experimenting with them! Take note of the results and see if it’s something you wish to continue playing with, some fun play isn’t fun for everyone so dabble into whatever you’re comfortable with.
