For those who don’t know, ipsy is a subscription package that sends beauty products for a monthly fee of $10. If you’re like me, then you’re new to the whole make-up game. What the heck is contouring and highlighting? What colors look good on me? What should I be using for my skin type? These are all questions that I had when I started using make-up on a semi regular basis. I decided to try ipsy for a few reasons. Instead of dumping loads of money on make-up that I potentially didn’t like or wasn’t good for my skin, I decided ipsy was a good place to get samples of different products to really explore what I like and what I don’t like. Also, since most of the products are sample size, you do not have to worry about wasting precious and expensive make-up.

How to get started

The first step when applying for ipsy is to take a questionnaire. This is important because in the questionnaire it asks questions about your skin tone/type, hair color, what styles you like/don’t like, etc. After that, you wait for your package to come in the mail. Note, there may be a delay in when you get your package. For example, if you apply in October, you may not receive the October package and have to wait until November to get the November package. In the meantime, the package is customized based off of what you filled out in the questionnaire.

The make-up comes in cute little bags which are different each month. The November 2016 make-up bag looks like this, and comes with 5 beauty products.

The first product I will be reviewing is the Skone® Brow Wand Eyebow Pencil in Chocolate

I was excited when I got the brow pencil because when I do my makeup my brows get washed out by the foundation. The color matched my brow color and looked natural. The shape of the pencil is a triangle which made it easy to use considering it was my first time. Also, this was a full size product that is worth $18! Considering I only spent $10 for this entire package, I’d say that is a great deal! Since you can review each product in your bag through the ipsy website, I gave this product 5 out of 5 hearts!

(Left eyebrow has the product, right eyebrow doesn’t)

The second product I will be reviewing is the LUXIE 524T make up brush

I am in dire need of brushes so I was so excited to see that I got a brush. This product was kind of small for my liking, but good for blending. An important thing to note is that LUXIE creates this brush with high quality and hypoallergenic synthetic bristles, which is perfect for sensitive skin. I gave this product 4 out of 5 hearts.

The third product I will be reviewing is the Honey Silk Facial Serum by hey honey™

This serum smells good and goes on clear. Also, a little goes a long way. It leaves my skin a bit slimy, but it does feel softer afterwards. I used this as a base before I put on my foundation like it suggests, but there is honestly no difference when I put my foundation on afterwards. I am not a huge fan of serums and for that reason I gave this product a 2 out of 5 hearts.

The fourth product I will be reviewing is the Porefessional by benefit cosmetics

I have heard so many great things about benefit’s Porefessional products so I was pumped when I saw this in my ipsy bag! This product is a cream that is supposed to hide pores and fine lines from your face. Since my cheeks, nose, and chin are my problem areas, I applied this product in those places. This product did an amazing job at disguising my pores! I absolutely loved it and gave it a 5 out of 5 hearts!

The last product I will be reviewing is the LAQA & Co. B’lighter is the shade Peacher’s Daughter

This product is a combination of a blush and a highlighter. My first reaction when I saw it was that it is not a color I would normally pick out for myself, but I was open minded. I put this product on over my blush which was suggested on the ipsy website. After applying two coats, I still couldn’t tell the difference with or without it, but It could be because my blush is too dark. I gave this product a 2 out of 5 stars.

Overall, I had a fun time reviewing ipsy and would suggest this to anybody who is into make-up or just starting out! Here is my before and after using all of the products:
