Dolce Friot – An Ice Cream Story Made at Bryant

I met Jillian Friot on the way to a networking event in Boston. There were four girls from Bryant attending this networking event and we decided we would carpool together. I soon found out that she was the president of an ice cream company – Dolce Friot. The story of how Dolce Friot got its start sounds like the kind of perfect match you only see in romantic comedies.

It was during the fall of 2011 and Jillian was walking out of one of her classes when Hooman Shahidi (a.k.a Hoo) stopped her in the hallway and asked her if she would like to start a business. They decided to meet up for dinner and talk about their new business venture. Needless to say Hoo worked his charm on Jillian and this so called “business dinner” turned out to be a date.

By December, not only were Jillian and Hoo dating but they did actually start that company they had talked about. Along with Jillian’s older brother, Chris Friot, Dolce Friot was born. Jillian Friot hails from a long line of Kimballs – founders of Kimball Farm and as such has been surrounded by the ice cream business her whole life. Hoo’s go-getter attitude and entrepreneurial spirit was just what Jillian needed to pursue her ice cream dream. Jillian is the President of the company, Hoo is the Director of Sales and Marketing and Head of Business Development, and Chris is the Director of Operations and Head of Logistics.

Dolce Friot was founded on the idea of making affordable organic kosher ice cream. Jillian’s boyfriend Hoo, designs flavors which currently include – pomegranate granola, blueberry tort, and cinnamon graham.  Apart from the fact that the company produces organic ice cream, they are also innovative when it comes to creating environmentally friendly packaging. Dolce Friot packages their ice cream in a recyclable plastic container as opposed to using paper containers.

Dolce Friot has already garnered attention from supermarkets and restaurants. With Jillian, Hoo, and Chris acting as three different flavors of a perfect batch, there is no doubt that Dolce Friot will be a successful story made in ice cream heaven.

Devon is a senior at Bryant University.  As a Marketing and Communications major, Her Campus is everything that Devon loves.
