Halloween is a time for scary movies, festive costumes, eating lots of candy, and having lots of spooky fun with your friends!

We’re sure everyone had some type of bad experience on Halloween as a kid. Maybe your sibling ate all your candy, your parents wouldn’t let you wear that “scandalous genie” costume – whatever it was, it probably slightly ruined your Halloween experience for a bit.

To reduce the mishaps that can easily come with this time of year, we put together a list of things NOT to do this Halloween:

Don’t wear any offensive costumes/clothes.

Don’t be that one person that shows up in blackface or as an Indian – racism is not a cute look on ANYONE.

Don’t carry any fake weapons.

Carrying around a fake gun with your costume may seem like a cool idea, but it’s not – you never know who can be scared/offended by your prop.

Give out healthy treats.

Even if you wouldn’t like to receive carrots/apples as a treat, try to give them out to others.

Don’t use your costume as an excuse to act out of character.

If you wouldn’t do it sober and not in your costume, don’t use your costume as an excuse to do it now – you will most likely regret it.

Don’t put your drink down at a party.

NEVER put your drink down/leave your drink unattended at a party. If you happen to put it down, get a new one just to be safe.

Don’t dress up as “naughty” anything.

This includes but is not limited to; naughty nurses, naughty cats, naughty bunnies, naughty librarians – try to come up with something new or something that’s not complete overkill.

Don’t do anything stupid that you would see in a horror film.

If you wouldn’t normally hang out in cornfields late at night in a mildly creepy area, don’t do it now!

Don’t play around with a Ouija Board or anything else that summons the dead.

This is self-explanatory, just don’t do it.

Don’t investigate any creepy/haunted sounds you hear.

If you feel scared, leave. Don’t follow the sounds that scare you because you may not like what you find (AKA don’t be the girl that goes in the closet in the horror movies even though everyone is screaming “don’t go in there”).

Don’t prank call people.

Odds are you don’t like getting prank called, so why do it to someone else?

Basically, just be smart and conscious of your actions and your surroundings this spooky season!

Happy Halloween!
